The star of a hit BBC comedy has heartbreaking reflected on his time on the show as it ends after 10 years on screen.

Steve Pemberton has bid a heartbreaking farewell to his show Inside No. 9, which he co-wrote with Reece Shearsmith. The pair had fronted the show for 10 years, and it has been a hit with viewers since it made its debut back in 2014.

The pair have now filmed the final episode of the BBC hit show, and Steve took to Twitter to share the final clapperboard as he confirmed they had ended filming this week for good. He wrote: "Time to say goodbye to #InsideNo9 having just wrapped series 9.

"This takes us to 55 episodes, a very decent innings. Mixed emotions but can’t wait to share what we’ve made. @ReeceShearsmith."

Fans rushed to the comment section to praise the show, with one writing: "What an amazing show! Thank you so much for making it!" whilst a second added: "Can't wait. Would love to see a live version some day." A third shared: "Probably the best show I’ll ever watch, I’m so sad to see it end but so curious about the final season. Thank you Reece and Steve for entertaining us by your amazing plot twists and scares. Thank you for everything!" with a fourth writing: "#InsideNo9 Best writing on tv! More intriguing and compelling in 30 mins than most shows manage in a full series!!! Look forward to it's return but... sad it's going to be final series."

A fifth penned: "Thank you for creating a wonderful collection of stories. Which allowed us to have escapism . Made us think twice, and played with our emotions. All good things must come to an end . Sometimes you can't go back but it's always good to visit or rewatch. Thank you," and a sixth shared: "Congratulations and thank you both on creating a show loved by so many that can be hilarious, terrifying, moving, intriguing and so darn clever too! I will miss it dreadfully!"

Steve confirmed back in 2022 that the show was ending after nine series, but did tease it could be back one day. "We feel it is a good time to pause Inside No.9 after we finish filming series nine next year," he said, "We’re not saying it’s over for good. After all, The League Of Gentlemen came back, but we won’t be looking to make any more episodes for the time being." It's past guest stars have included the likes of Sheridan Smith, Keeley Hawes, Helen McCroy and Alison Steadman.
