As the devastating news of actor Carl Weathers' death broke, we're looking back at a behind-the-scenes look at one of his most famous on-screen moments of all time - the iconic Rocky II fight scene.

Carl will be loved and remembered for many unforgettable performances throughout his career, but one of his most well-loved roles as that of boxer Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise. In Rocky II Creed squared up against Rocky Balboa and made one of the most iconic fight scenes in Hollywood history. And luckily for fans, actor Sylvester Stallone just gave a behind-the-scenes glimpse behind the making of the famous scene.

In the jaw-dropping scene, heavyweight champion Creed and Rocky battle it out in the ring for a second time. Creed is filled with rage as he throws punches at the boxer after being defeated during their first match in the original Rocky movie leading to the first big win of Rocky's career. Fans were on the edge of their seats throughout the nerve-wracking match as Creed nearly knocked out Rocky within the first two rounds.

Throughout the fight viewers were ready to count Rocky out after he faced numerous bloody shots to the head from Creed. But at the very end of the bout Rocky sets off a series of fierce punches and scores a huge knockout. After the brutal blows, Creed crashes onto the floor with Rocky falling down with him as he loses his balance.

With both competitors on the ground the referee was ready to all it a tie but then Rocky miraculously jumped to his feet within nine tense seconds. This iconic win for the underdog was a moment that went down in cinematic history and now, 44 years later, actor Sylvester shared a never-before-seen clip of the scene.

This month the 77-year-old star took to Instagram sharing a clip of him and Carl back in the day as they prepped for the big scene. In the video, the two actors are seen battling it out in the rink with actor Sylvester seen ripping off his white tank off at the end out of frustration and exhaustion. Sylvester captioned the post: "Practicing for the final fight in Rocky2. Rare footage. Thought it be fun to share. Keep punching."

Fans took to the comments of the post sharing an outpour of love and respect for the actor and the classic movie. One fan wrote: "No one would have guessed a double knockdown! Absolutely incredible." Another added: "It must stir up a lot of emotions watching these clips. Amazing moments frozen in time." And a third commented: "Sylvester, the movie Rocky 2 is a masterpiece! Your performance is extraordinary, and the story is truly moving."
