LIV Golf's event at Mayakoba is going ahead as planned, despite reports the season opener was set to be postponed due to food poisoning among players and caddies.

Reports suggested that there was doubt Friday's opening round in Mexico would go ahead due to the bug, but LIV have confirmed to Mirror Sport that there will be no change to the schedule for the week. Jon Rahm will no have breathed a sigh of relief, with the Masters champion making his debut on the Saudi-backed circuit.

Rahm made the move to the LIV setup in December, signing a record-breaking deal worth a reported £450 million in what has been seen as the breakaway league's biggest coup yet.

The Spaniard will also lead his newly-formed Legion XIII team this week, consisting of two other new signings and one of LIV Promotions' beneficiaries. Kieran Vincent will team up with Rahm after qualifying from the promotion event at the end of 2023, joining his older brother Scott on the LIV roster.

Rahm also acquired the services of one of the world's top amateurs in Caleb Surratt, who turned professional to join the breakaway league and the Legion setup. The green jacket winner then completed his roster in style, bringing in his Ryder Cup partner, Tyrrell Hatton.

Hatton signed with the LIV league at the 11th hour, having kicked off his season on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in January. Welcoming his new teammate to the league, Rahm said this week: "Tyrrell is somebody I respect a lot. He's a really good friend of mine.

"We've shared the stage in some of the biggest events in the world and more recently in the Ryder Cup. Proud to say we're undefeated together. It's somebody that's always been very high on my list. I think it's somebody who can perform under any circumstances.

"I think the two of us understand each other very well for some various obvious reasons we're probably not going to get into, but I see a lot of myself in him, as well, so that's probably why I feel such a good connection with him on the team.

"I'm very happy he accepted the offer and is now a part of it." It was not all simple for Rahm though, who admitted he was left sweating over whether Hatton would actually accept his offer to join. We've had enough to think about," the two-time major winner added.

"I was worried about maybe not having Tyrrell here this week. Yeah, that was really in the back of my mind." Rahm will begin his week on the opening hole of the shotgun start on Friday, joining defending champion Talor Gooch and former Open winner Cam Smith on the first tee.
