One pensioner is refusing to hang up her high heels, and has her eyes set on conquering the beauty pageant world.

Nearing 70, many would expect Jocelyn Cubales, also known as Joyce Peñas Pilarsky, to retire from the fashion world and take up a hobby like crocheting or sudoku. However, the model, from Quezon in the Philippines - is taking centre stage at the ripe young age of 69.

The fashion designer has officially entered the Miss Universe beauty pageant, taking on 14 other models who are almost 50 years her junior. It comes after The Miss Universe Organisation removed the age limit banning participants over 28 from taking part in the contest last year.

Donned in a short nude and gold dress with puffy sleeves and strappy heels, it's clear Cubales won't let her age dictate her fashion choices. Her husband Marc says she hopes her dedication will 'inspire other Filipino women to pursue their passions and achieve their dreams'.

If victorious in the regional contest, Cubales hopes to participate in the national and finals, where she could go on to represent her country at Miss Universe. According to organisers, she 'believes that the younger generation can learn a lot from her life experiences, most especially grit'.

But the OAP is much more than just her beauty, having scooped the award for Mother of The Universe back in 2017 for her charity work for women and kids in the Philippines. That year, the title was won by Luu Hoang Tram from Vietnam.

Hundreds of people on social media poured in support for the model, saying it should never be too late to 'chase your dreams'. "Give her a chance. She looks incredible," one person wrote. Another commented: "Love this." While a third added: "Go for it because you're absolutely beautiful inside and out. Good luck."
