Viewers would switch off 'new' Harry and Meghan docuseries as Netflix deal ends
More than 5,000 Mirror readers would refuse to watch another Prince Harry and Meghan Markle docuseries, as the royal pair eye-up a potential deal with Paramount Pictures.
This comes as the couple’s £77million deal with Netflix is expected to end in early 2025, which has seen the release of bombshell docuseries Harry & Meghan. The contract was first established in 2020, after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from the Firm.
Rumours about the duo joining forces with Paramount have recently emerged, after they were allegedly invited to the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love in Kingston, Jamaica, by the CEO of the production company. The CEO Brian Robbins is reportedly friends with the Sussexes', and lives close to their Montecito mansion.
Lynn Carratt from Press Box PR has told The Mirror: "Their eyes will now be set on finding the next big multi-million-pound deal. It seems like Paramount could be a potential contender if they are close to Brian Robbins, the head of Paramount."
She added: "Netflix is reportedly not interested in producing kids' shows or more films with them. Instead, they want to create a 'juicy' feature-length version about their royal past which at the moment would not be a good PR move for them, so it’s unlikely that will happen as part of their current Netflix deal."
Bank of Dave self-made millionaire giving away money to 'keep kids working hard'What’s more, a royal insider told Closer that Meghan is "hyper-concerned" about money because they are "not bringing in what they’d expected" - suggesting a new contract could be an attractive offer. We asked Mirror readers if they would watch another Harry and Meghan Netflix-style docuseries, and a staggering 94 percent voted 'No, I wouldn’t'.
A hefty 5,654 people took part in our poll, and a massive 5,286 would refuse to sit through future production. Taking to the comments to voice their thoughts, one person penned: "Considering how much false representation was portrayed, then NO. Deliberately altering Queen Elizabeth II's most famous speech to imply a more imperial message, aswell as using footage from a Harry Potter film premiere to falsely depict Meghan's so-called harassment, are just two examples."
Another shared: "I didn't watch the first one nor would I waste one minute of my time watching anything they were in. The disrespect for HRH, Queen Elizabeth, and her husband, Prince Philip was enough to infuriate me."
A third wrote: "Why watch, they will only say the same things again and again and again? It was only watched first time around out of curiosity. Let's be honest, the majority of things they restaged were ick and cringeworthy. The only good thing that came out of the docuseries was the curtsey, it was a lightbulb moment."
While a fourth added: "No I would not watch another, did not watch the first. Making money from discrediting others does not sit well with me. Show a smidgeon of personal talent and stop whining about being badly done to when born with a gold not a silver spoon and I might listen, but I believe they have shot themselves in the foot too often and few will consider giving them a second chance."
Meanwhile, four percent confessed they would watch another docuseries, as one reader posted: "I adore them, of course i'd watch another series. They are so sweet and earnest.” While a second echoed: “If they had 100 documentaries I would watch every single one of them."
Another supporter expressed: "Harry and Megan are doing well. It is nice to see hard working good talent being accepted into a male dominated industry which is full of waste and bias in-far to many areas. Normal, honest, likeable, hard working people in a tough environment, best of luck."
Just two percent selected the option 'Other', as one user admitted: "I'd only watch something with Harry in it if he rejoined the royal family."
While another added: "Watched the first one (six hours of my life I will never get back), read Spare and am currently reading their follow up novel Endgame. In my opinion there is nothing left they could say or do that would be interesting or change public perception. It gets quite tiring to hear wealthy, privileged people complain about their lives and constantly claim victim status."
