It's a classic byword for the arrogance of a perceived indestructibility in the shipbuilding industry and it's now been revealed – that one byword can also put the fear of death in both cruise passengers and crew alike. It was a great romantic film, especially the (completely fabricated) scene with Winslet and DiCaprio, but, whisper it, the word 'Titanic', is a massive no-no when actually on board a cruise liner.

According to one TikTokker, it's akin to shouting 'fire' in a cinema, or 'Dem' at a Trump convention. Mentioning the sinking of the White Star Line ship that went down in the North Atlantic on April 15, 1912, as a result of striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York is the biggest no-go.

Content producer Marc Sebastian went on Royal Caribbean’s nine-month Ultimate World Cruise for 18 days and shared a list of things he learned about cruising. He claimed in his viral video with more than four million views, that the "number one" thing he learned hard and fast was that saying 'Titanic' will win you only enemies". He said: "You're not supposed to talk about the Titanic. Who knew that? I didn’t. I brought up to an entire room of people having lunch that our ship was only 100 feet longer than Titanic. I tell you – utensils dropped, waiters gasped, it’s dead silent."

The influencer, who has 1.7 million followers, said that his cruise friend Nadine had to whisper and tell him not to talk about the Titanic, and in the video, he complains that: "Well, it wasn’t like that was in the f****** handbook. Not that I read the handbook, clearly," he admitted. He managed to get himself on the uber-expensive nine-month trip by posting yet another TikTok that went viral when he begged the cruise line to put a camera crew on the ship and make a reality show out of it, arguing that "there will be enough footage for at LEAST three-season, one-hour episodes." His video got 7.6 million views.

He said: "Put me on the cruise – I’ll go. I will cause chaos, I will wreak havoc, and I will film everything." He got lucky, as a "very unexpected and cool brand" made contact and offered a partnership that would put him on the cruise to get dirt. He then announced that he would be boarding the cruise in Antarctica in partnership with Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster.

But the cruise line were 'unable' to allow him on the cruise for the whole 274-day trip, so he spent 18 nights recording his experience. According to his TikTok videos, his last day on board was Tuesday, January 23. He did a video of "departing".

The lad added in his video that cruise ships have godmothers – and this ship's, referred to by him as a "floating retirement home with a Cheesecake Factory attached", is US megastar Whoopi Goldberg. He said in the video, while having a stab at his fellow passengers on the Serenade of the Seas: "Whoopi, girl, you and I gotta talk. Because I have to let you know what’s going on on this ship. As an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) winner, I just don’t feel like this is the right ship for you."
