Fans gush over 'best show' Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot as it drops day early

After a surprise drop a day early, fans were eager to watch the latest Amazon Prime show, Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Since the trailer dropped, the new comedy-action show was set to premiere on Friday, February 2. But the day before at 7 pm, all eight episodes dropped on Amazon Prime.

This new show is created by actor Donald Glover - also known as the rapper Childish Gambino - and Francesca Sloane. Donald also stars in the show alongside Maya Erskine, best known for being the co-creator and co-star in the show PEN15.

Fans were shocked as the show dropped earlier than expected. One fan wrote on Twitter: "That new Mr. & Mrs. Smith show just dropped? Right on time."

The show is a reimagining of the 2005 movie Mr & Mrs. Smith starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The original was about two spies who are married but don't know each other's real profession as they are assigned to murder each other.

This new version follows two lonely strangers, played by Donald and Maya, as they join a spy agency. The duo are given the identities of John and Jane Smith as they are thrown into an arranged marriage.

Last month when the trailer was shared, fans were not impressed by the lack of chemistry between the two main characters. "You know what really made the original great? The charm, the actual comedy. Every1 wanted to be them in their heads. They could’ve called this something else. But it’s not Mr. & Mrs. Smith," one person wrote on Twitter.

Some even went as far as to compare the two to the original Mr. and Mrs. Smith - which Brad and Angelina started dating after filming. Since then the couple adopted three children and had three biological children, got married in 2014, and eventually divorced in 2019.

But it seems that after watching the series premiere, fans changed their minds. One wrote: "I'm 3 mins into Mr. & Mrs. Smith and its the best show of the year."

"This new Mr. & Mrs. Smith show is actually good," another person wrote with crying emojis, presumably someone who wasn't a fan of the trailer but now enjoyed the show.
