The Princess of Wales and Prince William have apparently 'broke a key royal rule' when Prince Harry's book came out

The couple toured a new Royal Liverpool Hospital and had selfies taken with staff. But by being pleasant to people the future King and his wife actually broke Royal rules. The strict regulations on selfies had previously been revealed by Meghan Markle in December 2017 when she said they are off-limits. Meghan made the remarks in her first public Royal walkabout in Nottingham. She then said: “We're not allowed to do selfies”.

But in what many considered to be 'an act of defiance' against Prince Harry and comments made about the Royal Family in the Harry's memoir Spare, the pair happily posed and had selfies taken with staff and with nurses and other members of the public.

The Liverpool Echo reported hospital staff said the couple were “kind” during their tour. But many fans have in the past been knocked back after asking a member of the Royal Family to take a quick selfie. They are told not to stand close to people while their backs are turned to prevent any safety concerns which may arise. They are also not permitted to have their own personal social media accounts.

This meant if they did start taking selfies there would be no platform where they could post them. They do, however, have public ones and they regularly publish officially taken family snaps. During their hospital visit just after Harry's book came out, one journalist shouted to them asking if if they had “read” the book. Instead of answering the question, they continued to walk around the hospital.

The Mirror has previously reported how Royal duties may be suspended for the Prince and Princess of Wales as Kate recovers from surgery. But it didn't stop the pair from being given a major royal update along with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The whole Wales family have seen their bios on the official Royal Family website updated with more up-to-date pictures and information.

The main picture on Kate's bio has been changed to a smiley snap of her taken while meeting the Windrush Cymru Elders in Cardiff in October. Other new images added to her profile include a business-like photo of her attending a meeting for her Early Years campaign as well as attending her annual Christmas Carol Concert in December.

Prince William's main photo is one taken of him giving his memorable speech at the Coronation concert last May. There is also a lot more information on William's work, while Kate's bio has also been updated to reflect her recent engagements.

George, Charlotte and Louis all had their bios updated with new pictures, with their profile photos being the latest snaps that were released to mark their birthdays last year. The official Royal Family website has been slow to be fully updated since the death of the late Queen in 2022, with Buckingham Palace previously hinting this would be a slow process.
