A witness has recounted the horrifying scene when two little boys were fatally struck by a speeding car being driven by a wealthy socialite.

In emotional court testimony, Jack Sands described the terrifying incident he witnessed in September 2020, when the children were killed by a speeding Mercedes allegedly driven by socialite Rebecca Grossman, who had allegedly just had a boozy lunch with her former LA Dodgers star lover.

Grossman, 60, has been charged with second-degree murder over the crash that killed Jacob Iskander, eight, and his brother Mark, 11, on September 29, 2020.

Sands detailed the tragic incident, stating that Grossman's white Mercedes struck Mark and his brother Jacob. According to Sands, he was a passenger in a car overtaken by Grossman's Mercedes and a black SUV driven by her lover, Scott Erickson.

Sands described the two vehicles as "bumper to bumper" with the black car attempting to avoid the children, but the white Mercedes struck one of the boys, sending him airborne.

He said, per the Daily Mail: "The black car tried to avoid the kids by moving out of the way. But the white car was just a few feet behind - I could see the white car hit one of the boys. I saw him go airborne to the right side of the road."

Nancy Iskander, the mother of the victims, fled the courtroom in tears when a graphic photo of her 11-year-old son Mark's lifeless body was presented by prosecutors. During the testimony, Sands claimed that neither vehicle stopped at the scene after the tragic incident, that took place in Westlake Village, California..

The picture - shown to jurors by prosecutors - was taken by local Westlake Village resident Susan Manners just after the accident which she also witnessed.

When asked if he saw Grossman return to the crash scene, Sands responded in the negative. Lead defence attorney Tony Buzbee attempted to challenge Sands' account by presenting a photograph of the road, but Sands maintained that he witnessed the white car hitting one of the children.

However, confusion arose when Sands' friend, Yasmin Eftekhari, who was driving the car he was in, provided a conflicting account. While both witnesses agreed that the white car hit one of the boys, their descriptions of the vehicles' positions and the sequence of events differed.

Grossman insists she did not hit the boys and denies driving at 81mph. Her alleged former LA Dodgers star lover, Scott Erickson, was reportedly driving a separate SUV after their lunch at Julio's in Westlake Village.

The trial started with a heated dispute between prosecutors and the defence over what the jury should be told. Prosecutors allege that Grossman had a boozy lunch with her former lover before the fatal hit-and-run. The defence contends that Erickson, driving a separate vehicle after their lunch, was responsible for the tragic incident. It is alleged the pair had been racing each other.

Grossman is the co-founder of the Grossman Burn Foundation and is married to burns surgeon Dr Peter Grossman, and Erickson were heading in their two cars to a Westlake Village apartment when the tragedy occurred, according to prosecutors. Erickson, now 55, was charged with a misdemeanour, and his case was resolved in February 2022 with a judge ordering him to make a public service announcement about safe driving for high school students.

Erickson played with the Los Angeles' Dodgers in 2005 and ended his career with the New York Yankees in 2006. He is now divorced. Grossman's murder charges are unusual as there was no charge of driving under the influence. Her breathalyser test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.076 percent - slightly below California's legal limit of 0.08 percent. A blood sample taken three hours after the crash registered at the 0.08 percent mark.
