Inside Walmart's remodelled stores as work begins on first of 650 set for revamp

Walmart has released images of its new remodelled stores after announcing its plan to redesign 650 sites within 12 months. The supermarket giant announced its plans to open 150 new stores within the next five years - and remodel another 650 - creating tens of thousands of jobs in the process.

It's first two new stores - in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia - are set to open in spring, with a full list of locations expected to be published at a later date. The new and remodeled stores will reflect Walmart's Store of the Future concept, featuring improved layouts, expanded product selections, and innovative technology.

Its new facilities are being designed with sustainability in mind, including more energy-efficient equipment and lighting, and lower-impact refrigerants. A Walmart statement reads: "Customers love this concept in the places we’ve already rolled it out, and we’re excited to transition more and more of our fleet.

The retail giant is also developing a network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations, with the hope this will make owning an electric vehicle more convenient for Walmart shoppers and associates. The statement adds: "These new and remodeled stores will better enable us to meet and exceed customer expectations whether in a store, online at Walmart.com, or through one of our mobile apps.

Walmart has another 12 new projects planned

"We’re proud that improving our stores also has a tangible impact in the communities we serve. What a win it is to invest in America, grow our business and move toward a more sustainable future – all at the same time" Alongside their new and revamped stores, Walmart says it's working to finalise construction plans on 12 new projects intended to start this year, along with converting one of their smaller locations to a Walmart Supercenter.

The statement reads: "When it comes to investing in America, Walmart has a very strong history. We directly employ approximately 1.6 million people in this country and support many more jobs beyond that. These efforts represent millions of dollars in capital investment of labor, supplies and tax revenue, which benefit their respective communities. And they’ll help us reach and serve even more customers."
