The end is near for the January transfer window, with just a couple of days to go for clubs to make those all-important late deals.

Activity is buzzing across all three divisions as EFL teams from the Championship, League One and League Two look to bring in a player who could make the difference for them this season.

Clubs have until 11pm on February 1 to complete their transfer business before the window slams shut until the summer.

With that in mind, here is the latest EFL transfer notebook along with analysis from our EFL72 team. You can also sign-up to our daily EFL newsletter below.

Plymouth reject Serie A bid

Plymouth have rejected an approach from Serie A side Lazio for star man Morgan Whittaker. Director Neil Dewsnip confirmed the interest to Plymouth Live but reiterated the club's stance of the 21-year-old being not for sale.

Whittaker has been one of the standout players in the Championship so far this season alongside Sunderland winger Jack Clarke, who the Italian giants have also seen a bid rejected for this month. News of the interest in Whittaker initially broke on Monday, when journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed Lazio's approach.

On the forward's potential departure away from Home Park, Dewsnip told Plymouth Live: "The offer was immediately rejected.Morgan is very happy at Argyle and we maintain our position that he is not for sale."

EFL72 says:“Lazio have now dipped into the Championship market a few times in this window and it's no surprise to see this sort of strategy emerging given the amount of talent in the division. However, these sorts of players now come at some cost and you'd expect Plymouth to be holding out for a fee in the region of at least £20-25m here if they were to even consider a transfer."

Leeds to return for Godfrey

Leeds United are expected to return with a new offer for Everton defender Ben Godfrey, according to a report from Football Transfers. The club have already seen an initial loan offer rejected by the Toffees this month but Daniel Farke's side are set to try again before the window closes.

Everton had previously put the 26-year-old up for sale in this window with several parties interested in his signature - including Farke, who had worked with him previously at Norwich. Sean Dyche's are said to want Godfrey off of the club's current wage bill and Leeds are keen on returning for a potential move.

EFL72 says: " Leeds' defensive plan in this window has been no secret and getting a player like Godfrey through the door would only boost their promotion hopes. Now a player with Premier League experience, the 26-year-old is coming into his prime years and has worked with Farke before, so we could see him ending up at Elland Road before the window slams shut."

Everton look to Leicester outcast

A player that could end up as Godfrey's replacement at Goodison Park is Leicester's Harry Souttar. According to a report from TeamTALK, the Toffees are willing to let Godfrey go if they can bring in a replacement and are currently weighing up a move for the Australian.

Souttar is currently away at the AFC Asian Cup with the Socceroos but has recently found himself out of favour under new boss Enzo Maresca. The Foxes are said to be willing to let the 25-year-old depart the King Power Stadium, in the hope of freeing up space to allow incomings of their own.

EFL72 says: " Souttar has shown himself to be one of the Championship's leading defenders and deserved his move to Leicester from Stoke last season. However, a change of manager means it hasn't quite worked out but a move to Everton could provide the change that he's been looking for. Obviously this all depends on other deals, however, so this may go down to the wire."

Sunderland beat rivals to midfielder

Sunderland have reportedly won the race for Standard Liege midfielder Romaine Mundle, according to reports. It had previously been reported by Fabrizio Romano that a host of clubs, including the Black Cats, Stoke and Plymouth, were interested in a permanent transfer for the former Tottenham man.

However, it now appears that Sunderland have emerged as the likely destination for the 20-year-old, who only joined the Belgian club at the start of this season.

Cardiff keen on Celtic star

Cardiff are interested in making a move for Celtic midfielder David Turnbull, according to Sky Sports. It is understood that talks are underway between the two clubs for the Scottish star, who has scored seven times in 19 appearances this season.
