San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is buzzing about the chance to face Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LVIII.

The second-year NFL starter has been following Mahomes' career since his high school days, saying the experience is going to "be sweet". Purdy expressed his admiration for the Kansas City Chiefs QB, saying to NBC: "It's gonna be sweet. Very cool. Been watching that guy since I was in high school, really.

"The way he's taken over the NFL, it's been fun to watch. To have an opportunity to go up against him for a Super Bowl? Doesn't get any better than that. Does it?"

Interestingly, both Purdy and Mahomes have had similar starts to their NFL careers. In their first 21 games as starters, they both achieved 17 wins and four losses. They also led their teams to a 4-1 record in their first five playoff appearances. During their first full seasons as starters, both ranked first in QBR, touchdown percentage, and EPA per dropback.

Both these star quarterbacks started their careers with top-notch teams and coaches, surrounded by Pro Bowl and All-Pro talents like George Kittle, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and Deebo Samuel.

Both made their Super Bowl debuts in a face-off between the Chiefs and 49ers. They also both reached the conference championship game twice in their first two seasons, losing the first time but winning the second. Interestingly, both victories were against teams wearing light blue uniforms.

Purdy's leadership and performance have won him praise from his team and coaches this season. Despite some critics saying his success is due to other factors, Purdy's contribution to the team's success is undeniable.

Running back Christian McCaffrey praised his teammate, saying: "I don't have enough good things to say about Brock. All he's done since he's been here is play at an elite level. Everything starts with him. We're lucky he's our quarterback. He takes a lot of heat for absolutely no reason. All he has done has been a great leader and been a great player. I'm so proud of him and pumped up that I get another one with him this year."

The 49ers had a successful season, finishing with 12 wins and securing the top spot in the NFC. In the NFC Conference championship game against the Detroit Lions, Purdy showed off his skills by completing 20 out of 31 passes for 267 yards. He threw a touchdown pass and an interception during their thrilling 34-31 comeback win.
