A woman born via sperm donation in the 1980s has finally tracked down her biological father - and made three other unexpected discoveries during her search. The woman, who is to remain anonymous, grew up with two "wonderful" mums and a "great extended family" - but always wondered about her biological father.

Neither of her mums knew much about him - saying they simply visited a clinic in the 1980s to receive a sperm donation and nine months later, she was born. Sharing her story on Quora, her friend said: "When she was in her mid-30s she decided to do 23andMe to see if she could get whatever information she could about that side of her family.

"She got the results back, and found out her dad was most likely of Western European descent, and, oh yeah, that she had three half-siblings," she added. "This was far beyond what she ever thought she would find. These must be the kids from her father's marriage! She sent them all messages hoping to meet this other family, and maybe even her bio dad."

She came to learn her half-siblings were all born via sperm donation too - and none of them knew who their biological father was either. There was, of course, some family drama left and right. When the dust cleared though, they all decided to band together and find their real dad. And they did!" Thankfully, their biological father welcomed them into his life with open arms - and even went as far as to spark up a romance with one of their parents.

She said: "Turns out in the ‘80s he had been a poor college kid making a little extra money donating to a sperm bank, and he still lived in the same area. Not only did they all meet him, but now he's dating one of their moms, who, again, is the mother of one of his children, though they didn't meet until over 30 years after the fact. Life is crazy."

Her story prompted another user to share their own DNA discovery after being put up for adoption shortly after his birth. He said: "I was adopted at birth and knew it as I had four other siblings also adopted. There wasn't any way in a small country town to not know that babies were arriving by plane and the whole town knew it. So it possibly isn't so shocking.

"I had tried to find my birth parents 15 years earlier as I had become ill and I wanted medical histories. I managed to get in touch with my mother whom I had kept track of for about 10 years prior but had never contacted her in case she had a life outside mine and didn't want to complicate things.

"I did ask her about my medical history and she didn't want any more involvement than that at the time to this day." But then five years later, he decided to do a DNA test to see whether he could track down his biological father. Luckily, it came back with a 97% match. He added: "I had tried to contact my father through the armed services 'father finder' program 15 years ago and it had come back as did not want to make contact.

"He sent me an email from the ancestry service and wanted to have a personal relationship. He said he never had contact with the army before. So I don't know if it's greater than surprise, maybe it was a bit of a shock that he was there, public, and wanted to get to know me after I had heard that he didn't want to be part of my life."
