Prince Harry's dig at Peter Crouch -and quip about Meghan striker wished he made
Former England striker Peter Crouch turns 43 today!
No doubt the retired footballer, who extraordinarily stands at 6ft 7in, will be celebrating his special day with his stunning wife Abbey Clancy. The pair have been together since 2006, but some find it hard to believe he managed to bag the Liverpudlian model, including Prince Harry.
Their lasting relationship appeared to be something of a mystery for the prince, who is married to former Suits actress Meghan Markle. Peter met the Duke when he came into a dressing room during a charity football match in 2015.
Peter said: "His exact words were, 'How did you bag Abbey Clancy?' which I have to say left me taken aback. I'm not normally lost for words, but on this occasion, I didn't know what to say. I totally froze and then he was gone."

He had been with fellow players Jamie Carragher and David James, when Harry made the dig about his marriage. He added: "David and Jamie obviously thought it was hilarious and were laughing their heads off and, in retrospect, perhaps I should have said something like, ‘That’s a bit rich coming from a short balding ginger guy’, but I didn’t."

Revealing the alleged encounter whilst a guest on the Graham Norton Show, Peter joked to Jack Whitehall that he wished he'd had a good response. At the time, he didn't realise he'd been dating Meghan, and if he'd known, he said he would have had the same question.
The ex-Tottenham forward said: "That was pre-Meghan and I didn't know how to respond, but now I could come back to him with the same question!" In the past, the footballer has claimed that if it wasn't for his profession, he would still be a virgin.
He met Abbey, 37, in a bar almost 20 years ago, and they now share four children. But it hasn't been plain-sailing, with the couple, who have their own podcast, revealing they have to work on their marriage to keep the spark alive.
At the end of last year, Peter whisked Abbey away on holiday to Thailand in a surprise trip after they were going through a 'rough patch'. "Pete and I have been together for nearly 20 years, and it's hard to keep the spark alive," she admitted. "The main thing is not to take each other for granted, and Pete surprised me with a trip to Thailand, which was such a thoughtful thing to do."
However, the trip wasn't without its hiccups. Abbey laughed as she recalled: "The only thing was Pete didn't realise it was monsoon season it rained non-stop! We were there for 48 hours and we didn't leave our room."
Abbey shared to New! Magazine that the idea of having more kids came up while away, but Peter isn't so sure. "We both love being parents, it's the most fulfilling role, but having more right now is not on the agenda. Besides, Peter has said he'll leave me if we have any more!" she joked. With Abbey's work as a model, presenter and fashion designer, and Pete's broadcasting commitments, their lives are busier than ever.
