Birds of a Feather star Lesley Joseph says she still wears the dress from the show’s famous Like a Virgin karaoke scene.

Lesley, who played maneater Dorien Green alongside co-stars Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke, sang the Madonna hit on the sitcom in 1992. Now 78, she says she still has half of Dorien’s clothes in her wardrobe – but adds: “I can’t get in half of them any more. But I can still get in my karaoke dress.”

Leslie says she occasionally wears it to go out as it’s “super stretchy”. But the Londoner adds: “I can’t really wear some of them because they’ve got huge shoulder pads. They are so dated now. We started in 1989, so it’s 35 years ago. The fashions have changed so, so much. I don’t think I’ve worn anything she wore for a long time. But I’ve used lots of the handbags and the jewellery which I love.”

Lesley says she could never get rid of the clothes because of their sentimental value. She explains: “Some of them are iconic. They really are. And things like the karaoke dress – that scene was the most requested in the whole year on the BBC show Points of View.

“It’s still the one where people say, ‘oh my God, I loved it when you went to Hammersmith Palais and you sang Like a Virgin’.” Lesley is starring in The Addams Family Live in Concert in the West End for the first time next month. She will play Grandma alongside Michelle Visage as Morticia Addams, with Les Miserables star Ramin Karimloo as Gomez. Lesley says: “I’ve never played at the Palladium and I think Grand-ma is an iconic character. She’s 102 so I don’t have to look glamorous.”
