Crisp fans have expressed delight after learning a unique snack they thought had disappeared from shelves forever could soon be back.

Fans were left heartbroken after Walkers announced that its Marmite crisps had been discontinued at the end of 2023, meaning that bags would eventually disappear from shops as the stock ran dry. In a statement that left many reeling, Walker's said: "We know many crisp lovers will hate to see this Walkers flavour go. [...]This change will enable us to focus our efforts on making more of the flavours crisp fans love the most."

The Leicester-based crisp brand added that they were 'really sorry to disappoint fans', many of whom swiftly took to social media to express their outrage. One person howled "Dear Walkers crisps I hate you beyond measure." Another person tweeted furiously at crisp ambassador Gary Linekar, sharing that she was 'off out to panic buy multi-packs' to console her 'devastated son'.

Despair has since given way to joy, however, with the Marmite Instagram account recently offering a little beacon of hope. In a post that has generated enormous amounts of excitement, Marmite shared a snap of a crisp being held aloft against a pitch-black background, just below the instantly recognisable Marmite logo.

When paired with the caption 'Coming soon...', many have understandably taken this to mean that Marmite crisps will soon be making a comeback. Love it or loathe them, Marmite crisps certainly had one of the most distinctive tastes on the market, with the unami flavourings making this a satisfying snack for those wanting something a little bit different. And it's clear many customers were delighted by this intriguing update.

One person salivated, "Oh god yeah", while another enthused: "Marmite crisps are elite." A third thanked them profusely, commenting: "Marmite you are saving the day! My mum will be so happy! I've been trying to buy her a box before the old version disappears, thank you thank you." Owned by global consumer goods company Unilever, Marmite does already produce a Marmite-flavored range of snacks, including the very moreish cheddar cheese and Marmite bites, and of course Marmite oven-baked cashews. Now many believe this tasty hint could signal Marmite's intention to launch its own crisps, separate from Walker's.
