Netflix fans call for Sofia Vergara to win 'all the awards' for hit series
Netflix has dropped a new drama series starring Sofia Vergara that has fans calling for the actress to win “all of the awards.” Available to stream now, Griselda stars the Modern Family actress as Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco.
From the creators of Narcos, the limited drama series is a fictionalised dramatisation inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Blanco, who created one of the most powerful cartels in history. Set in 1970s-80s Miami, Griselda follows Blanco as she utilises a lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm that help her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as the Cocaine Godmother.
The the six-part series opens with an alleged quote from infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, once one of the world’s wealthiest, most powerful and most feared criminals. It reads: “The only man I was ever afraid of was a woman named Griselda Blanco.”

Griselda is available to stream exclusively on Netflix, which is currently available for free in Virgin Media’s winter sale alongside a whopping £270 saving. Empire said Vergara “practically dissolves into the role” and delivers an “astonishing performance,” while The Guardian described it as “hugely enjoyable, well paced and gorgeous to look at,” adding that “there isn’t a weak performance in it.” Griselda currently boasts a Certified Fresh 88 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and has fans calling for its star to win “all of the awards” for her performance.
