Condensation is a bugbear for homeowners across the country as it can cause a whole host of issues, but thankfully savvy cleaning fans have come up with a handy DIY home hack to absorb the water droplets.

Leaving condensation to its own devices can result in a build up of damp and mould which can lead to nasty smells, propery damage and serious health problems.

A dehumidifier is a good way to help reduce condensation build up, but instead of buying one, you can make your own with this easy trick. Cleaning fans of Mrs Hinch have shared a simple solution - and all you need is some cat litter.

A woman took to Facebook to share her trick as she was fed up with buying disposable dehumidifiers to tackle to the problem, and all she used was a pair of socks and some cat litter. She wrote: "Got my dehumidifiers ready. I put cat litter inside [socks]. Don't know if this works. [I] got fed up with spending so much money on the throwaway ones."

She revealed that all you need to do is part fill a sock with cat litter and place it where condensation builds up, and the cat litter works to absorb the water. The savvy woman then shared an update and said: "Update. Well, I can happily say that the socks filled with cat litter have worked. Yes, there was a little condensation but nothing like before. Hope this helps."

The handy trick was praised by other Mrs Hinch fans on the group with some sharing they had also tried it out. One commenter shared how they put it in their car and said: "It works really well in cars as well," while another added: "I do this in my car and it works great." A third wrote: "I put it into the car about a year ago. It's still working well.

"I buy the smallest cheapest litter I can find (I don't have a cat). So I'll throw it away and refill with fresh, once a year isn't too costly," another penned. You can buy cat litter for as little as £2.19 from the Morrisons savers range.
