Legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick is likely to take a break from the game in 2024 after missing out on the Atlanta Falcons job - however, he might make a comeback in 2025.

Belichick ended his long-standing relationship with the New England Patriots earlier this year, marking the end of one of the most successful eras in sports history. Together, they bagged six Super Bowl titles in their 24-year stint.

When he and the team confirmed his departure, it was anticipated that he would continue coaching at another club, as suggested in his goodbye press conference. The Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys were all rumoured to be potential new homes for the celebrated coach, but these options gradually fell through.

The Chargers appointed Michigan's Jim Harbaugh, while the Cowboys chose to stick with Mike McCarthy for another season. The Falcons, who seemed to be his last chance at securing a role for 2024, interviewed him twice before deciding on Raheem Morris.

Unless there's a sudden change of plans, Belichick will enter the 2024 season without a job - the first time he'll be out of the league since 1974. But even though he'll be 73 by the start of the 2025 season, he reportedly hasn't ruled out a return next year.

CBS Sports, via Sports Illustrated, reports that Belichick is keen to get back to the sideline, but only if he feels the opportunity is right for him.

Next year, Belichick might be heading into the media world. Pat McAfee has offered him a spot on his daily ESPN show. Bill Simmons, the boss of the Ringer, has also promised him a role on the Spotify-owned podcast network, similar to the one Doc Rivers had before he moved to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Fox Sports is also reportedly interested in Belichick. This move would reunite him with Tom Brady. Despite their relationship being a bit chilly behind the scenes, Belichick and Brady won six Vince Lombardi trophies together.

Brady plans to start his media career in 2024 after retiring at the beginning of 2023. He'll work on calling Sunday night games and will reunite with legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski, who has worked for the network since retiring.

Despite rumours of interest from the Washington Commanders, Belichick currently has no interviews lined up. There's also been some chatter linking him with the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles, as Mike Daboll and Nick Sirianni are both under pressure this year.
