Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj feud explained amid Hiss 'shade'

Megan Thee Stallion's latest release sees her apparently throw shade at old foe Nicki Minaj.

The songstress' hit, HISS, has already caused controversy just days after its release as fans pick up on alleged drama from a number of lines in the production. The song that was released on Friday features lines that seemingly will work to spark rows with Nicki Minaj as well as Kim Kardashian and Tory Lanez.

One of the shadiest and most controversial lines from the hit makes reference to Megan's Law. The singer chants: "These h*es don’t be mad at Megan, these h*es mad at Megan’s Law/ I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start".

Megan’s Law is a federal statute that requires law enforcement authorities to ensure that any registered sex offenders public information is available. With this reference, the rapper is hinting at Nicki Minaj's husband Kenneth Petty who in 2022, received one year of home confinement, three years probation, and a $55,000 fine for failing to register as a sex offender when he and Minaj moved to California.

But why the beef between Megan and Nicki? Here, we take a deeper look...

Prior to the song release - and Nicki's diss track follow up - the pair had been taking public shots at each other for years. The animosity had been brewing long before HISS' release and is said to have first started when Megan and Cardi B found musical success. The duo's rise apparently made Nicki jealous.

Nicki and Megan's links had them working together on Hot Girl Summer in 2019, but soon after Megan unfollowed Nicki on Instagram. She went on blanking the Starships singer and in 2021 Nicki repaid the favour and unfollowed Megan on the social media platform, leading to fans labelling them as rivals.

The disses in tracks started long before HISS too, and in May 2021, Nicki's Seeing Green tune had fans sure she was taking an indirect swipe at her new rival. The rapper sang: "One Margarita pizza with Parmesan and garlic. These b***hes thirsty; I can see why they alcoholics."

Thot S**t by Megan seemed to see her retaliate months later, with lyrics including: "B***h dry hatin', tryna get noticed. Man, ain't nobody come to see you, Otis, look."

Now, it appears as though the pair are just getting started once again and will almost certainly continue packing the heat on each other.
