Traitors' Mollie quits social media and hits out at fans calling her 'stupid'

Traitors star Mollie Pearce has opened up about her struggle to deal with the negativity following the social media backlash over her decision in last night's final.

The disability model, 21, had initially chosen to banish friend Harry Clark in the final roundtable - but wiped his name and replaced it with Jaz Singh at the last second, ultimately crowning Traitor Harry in the process.

Following the scenes, fans flocked to social media to plead "justice for Jaz" after he lost out on the cash over the unfortunate mishap, with some slamming Mollie in the process. Speaking to the Mirror today after last night's tense final, she spoke about how she had found dealing with the response to the show.

"I'm obviously new to all of that so I'm trying to process it and get my head around it and I'm kind of trying to stay off socials a little bit because I think today is going to be a bit rough," she explained. "But yeah, I'm hoping that it will pass. I think it's very easy for the public to say that I was stupid and stuff like that but at the end of the day I'm 21 and I've got emotions - what could I do? I think people forget that you're human when they're watching it on TV, but we do all have feelings so people should be more cautious with their comments."

After Harry's shock Traitor reveal, viewers watched as she walked off and was clearly devastated. Opening up about who reached out to who to rekindle their friendship, she explained: "It was a mutual thing - we spoke after. We had quite a big laugh, to be honest. You know, you are good friends and someone had to win and we weren't on the same team. It was either going to be me or him, so it would only be on the opposite foot if I didn't change my vote."

However, during the BBC spin-off show Uncloaked, Harry made a joke about falling in to the mud head first after failing a trial with Mollie. And despite seeing the funny side, it seemed that Mollie was still harbouring a bit of resentment towards the winner.

In response to his recollection she said: "I’m very glad I didn’t’ go into that because I feel like that’s a little bit of karma for you." And fans were quick to notice tension between the two. Taking to Twitter one person said: "#TheTraitors friends? Mollie still cannot look at Harry." A second added: "I don’t think the others (particularly the finalists) like Harry. They’re not interacting with him or laughing with him. Cuts to the others while he’s speaking and they aren’t warm or smiling or anything. Mollie especially."

Mollie is keen to use her appearance on the BBC show to be able to focus on shining a light on her disabilities. The model, who is missing a number of fingers on her right hand, was 11 when she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, which is a chronic condition that involves the inflammation of the lower end of your digestive system. When she turned 18, she underwent an ileostomy to remove her colon, which left her needing a stoma.

"I definitely want to focus on advocating for my disabilities and really putting that out there," she told us. "Especially for Crohns and colitis because it's affected my life so much - I think it needs to be spoken about a lot more, so that's definitely what I'm going to focus on."

The series took an emotional turn last week just one day before the gripping final when Mollie candidly spoke about how she tried to navigate her way through her life-changing surgery. Speaking to the camera, she told viewers: "I really struggled to get my head around the fact that I was going to have a stoma. I wasn't prepared for it at 18 years-old you kind of just want to be out enjoying yourself with your friends and not having this life changing surgery."

She continued: "Since my surgery I've got my life back. I realised I could wear what I wanted. I could go out, I can enjoy myself. It completely changed my life. I had so much of my life taken away and controlled by my illness I want to live and I don't want to regret not going travelling."
