One Show viewers fear the Paddy McGuinness 'curse' as he hosts BBC show
The One Show viewers joked about the Paddy McGuinness 'curse' as he hosted the BBC programme.
Paddy, 50, joined Alex Jones on the sofa as the co-host as they interview actors Paul Whitehouse, Arabella Weir and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. During the 30-minute show, fans were distracted by the fact Paddy has hosted a slew of shows that ended up getting cancelled.
Viewers rushed to social media to joke about his 'curse', with one user writing: " Paddy McGuinness on #theoneshow It'll be cancelled within two weeks," while another said: "The One show has the man who killed off 4 shows hosting tonight in Paddy McGuiness...is he going for the 5th?"
"Oh god Paddy here to kill off the @OneShow now," another was quick to quip. One fan added: "Oh dear, it's Paddy McGuiness the dark destroyer of BBC primetime shows #theoneshow."
Paddy used to host Catchpoint and I Can See Your Voice, with both getting cancelled last year. Top Gear was also suspended following Freddie Flintoff's horrific accident. Fan-favourite series Take Me Out also ended in 2020. Last year, he was axed from A Question of Sport as part of the BBC's schedule shake-up.
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likenessThe sports show was cancelled in December last year after 50 years, on the back of dwindling ratings and a lack of interest on iPlayer. The show underwent a revamp in 2021 when Paddy was called in to host the quiz as a replacement for legendary presenter Sue Barker. The former British tennis player left the show after 24 years in 2020 and new team captains, Ugo Monye and Sam Quek, joined the show to replace Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell.
When appearing on Stick to Football's quiz earlier this month, which included former footballer Gary Neville, Paddy said: "Absolutely devastated (it got cancelled). It's like in management, football, you go in, do your best, and that's that. But telly, you can be involved with a show and it'll run and run, or it'll finish and you move on, that's just the nature of the beast."
He added: "But when Question of Sport, when they stopped it - and honestly think whether it's captains, me, whatever it is, whatever the reason, they say it's budget stuff, but it's all kind of stuff - I just think, it's going to come back. Because I'm a fan of it." Speaking about his love of the show, he said that he had been "weaned on it from an early age."
