The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) could pay you £691 a month if you have one of these 87 musculoskeletal conditions.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a disability benefit paid to people who have long-term mental or physical health conditions or disabilities. According to the latest DWP data, around three million people currently claim it in the UK. PIP is awarded not for the condition or disability you have, but for how it affects your daily life. The more your disability or medical condition impacts your ability to take on daily tasks, the more money you can be entitled to.

PIP is made up of two components - a daily living rate and a mobility rate - and it is then split again into the standard rate and an enhanced rate. You can claim both components at the same time. For the daily living rate, you can either get £68.10 or £101.75 a week and for mobility, you can either get £26.90 or £71. If you are eligible for both enhanced rates you can get £172.75 a week or £691 every month - these rates will rise from April 2024.

Due to the criteria of PIP, it means that a broad range of conditions and disabilities can make you eligible to claim and this includes a whole list of musculoskeletal conditions. These are conditions relating to the muscles and skeleton including bones, joints, and tendons.

Arthritis is a general term that refers to many of these different conditions, however, some common conditions include osteoarthritis, back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and osteoporosis.

Below is the list of 87 musculoskeletal conditions being supported through PIP. It is not definitive, so if your condition does not appear, don't be put off making a claim as an award for PIP is about how the condition affects you, not the condition itself.
