Young dad, 27, killed in motorcycle accident just weeks before birth of his baby
A young father with a "beautiful smile" sadly died after crashing his motorbike in a fatal accident just six weeks before his second baby was due.
Latham Darren Howarth, 27, was an adoring dad to his two-year-old daughter, Ariella, and had a second child on the way with his girlfriend, Amber. On January 20, he was riding his vehicle, with his brother, Ollie, 16, sat on the back, when he tragically collided with a fence post in Wigan.
Born in Tyldesley, Latham was adored in his local area, with his death prompting tributes in huge numbers, with people across the area remembering him as a 'king-hearted soul'. Cory, one of Latham's ten siblings, said his brother's last words were: "Be careful, be safe." As emergency services rushed to the scene, Latham was able to get up and many thought he would recover from his injuries.
Latham had a second child on the way (Family handout UGC)However, upon reaching the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, his condition took a turn, telling his girlfriend that "something wasn't right" and he "wasn't going to make it".
He was moved to the Intensive Care Unit, where he passed away due to severe internal bleeding. Cory told Manchester Evening News: "There are so many of us, and Latham was always the glue of the family. He was loved by everyone. We are a solid unit, and it is in times like this when everyone comes together.

"We are one of 11 children to the same parents, and we have always all had that brotherly connection. He would always look to me for advice. The day before it happened, he called me for advice about work, and then on the day [of the accident], he called me and my last words to him were, 'Be careful, be safe'."

He would never get angry, he would cry - he had always been that way. He touched so many people. We want everyone to see his beautiful smile one last time. We will never forget it."
Providing for his family, Latham worked in the plumbing and bathroom fitting trade. He fell in love with Amber in 2020, and within three months, the couple had a child on the way. The handyman adored his daughter, Ariella, and couldn't wait to meet his baby boy.
Latham died after his motorbike hit a steel post. He was wearing a helmet and full protective gear at the time. Cory explained: "Bizarrely, there is no gate that attaches to the post. It’s just so randomly positioned. Latham was going no more than 15 or 20 mph. He is a very skilled rider. He was riding with care, carrying his younger brother on the back, before the front wheel slipped, and they both fell into the post."
