'Heartbroken' Tom Hanks and wife Rita's emotional tribute to Lisa Marie Presley
Actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have led tributes from stars of the movie and music world to pay tribute to Lisa Marie Presley following her death.
Presley, 54, the only daughter of music legend Elvis Presley, died on Thursday after she was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital suffering a possible cardiac arrest.
Her death has sent shockwaves through the global acting world as stars including Tom Hanks, who starred in Baz Luhrmann's movie 'Elvis' about her late father, have shared their condolences to the Presley family.
In an Instagram post on behalf of the couple, Rita Wilson told how Presley had been “gracious” enough to show her round Graceland – the mansion where her father lived in Memphis, Tennessee, during the film's promotional tour last year.
She said: "Our hearts are broken with the sudden and shocking passing of Lisa Marie Presley tonight. Tom and I had spent some time with the family during the Elvis movie promotional tour. Lisa Marie was so honest and direct, vulnerable, in a state of anticipation about the movie.
Priscilla Presley vows to 'protect' grandkids on Lisa Marie Presley's birthday"She spoke so eloquently about her father, what the movie meant to her, that it was a celebration of her dad. She had her gorgeous daughters Finley and Harper with her who made us all laugh."
She added: "Our hearts and our prayers go out to Riley, Harper, Finley , Danny and Priscilla. A mother should never have to lose a child. Lisa Marie lost her precious son Benjamin, Priscilla loses her only daughter. It's too much. Sending love to the family, prayers for peace and strength. Love, Rita and Tom."
Lisa Marie is survived by her mother Priscilla Presley who said in a family statement they are 'shocked and devastated' by the loss of 'their beloved Lisa Marie.
The tragic news came just two days after she attended the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills, where she was noticeably emotional upon learning that Austin Butler had won best actor in a drama film for playing her father in the biopic Elvis.
She told Entertainment Tonight during red carpet interviews the actor's performance had been "mind-blowing".
A video of Butler's acceptance speech at the awards has since gone viral as fans of the late singer-songwriter come to terms with her loss.
During his acceptance speech, he paid tribute to Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley, saying: “I want to thank the Presley family.
“Thank you, guys. Thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, and your home to me. Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I love you forever.”
Elsewhere John Travolta told on Instagram his “heart goes out” to Presley’s family following the news, writing: “Lisa baby girl, I’m so sorry.
“I’ll miss you but I know I’ll see you again. My love and heart goes out to Riley, Priscilla, Harper and Finley.”
