Sir David Jason couldn't believe what was happening as he sat open-mouthed.

The legendary actor is currently touring across the country with Jay Blades as part of the BBC show, David and Jay's Touring Toolshed but things soon became heated. In recent days, Sir David has found himself at the centre of a storm following his feud with his Only Fools and Horses co-star, Nicholas Lyndhurst.

During the latest episode of his new BBC show, Jay Blades found himself in the firing line after enrolling in a barrel-making course. Sir David instantly made a comment about Jay's skills as he embarked on the task.

"Just remember we haven't got three days for this programme," he said, before Jay responded: "No, it's not gonna fall in! Listen, less of the verbal over there, alright?" However, the actor couldn't help himself and went on to say: "You should've been way down with your rings on the barrel by this time."

Later on, an expert in barrel-making stepped in to help The Repair Shop's Jay Blades, with Sir David instantly quipping: "Oh, you're having help from the professional..." But as Jay finished his barrel, which Sir David branded "wobbly" before ordering him to "pick it up", things soon became heated.

"I'll tell you where I'll put my thumb in a minute if you don't stop talking," Jay fumed after Sir David instructed him to use his thumb to keep the barrel sturdy. But despite his best efforts, Jay was awarded a four out of ten for his attempt, which left him somewhat disappointed.

Having thrown his apron aside, he said: "The two of you can do one, I've had enough. I've had enough," before walking off set. But unbeknownst to him, Sir David told the barrel expert: "To be honest, he didn't do too bad, did he?" The show, which has another 14 episodes in its series has instantly become a hit with fans.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, viewers couldn't help but share their views on the programme with one writing: "Fantastic to see Sir David Jason & @jayblades_ show. Love the sandwich scene! The show has so much warmth & is a smooth 30 mins of pure TV. Anything with Sir David staring in is a must-watch! Fantastic to see David using some of his Del Boy skills throughout! #TouringToolshed.."

A second went on to pen: "David Jason back on the box. Whoever thought of this should be knighted pronto. #davidandjaystouringtoolshed." Another commented: "Just watched the first episode of #davidandjaystouringtoolshed, and I loved it. It looked like Jay and Sir David had fun making it. Well done, @BBCTwo and @jayblades_, and everyone involved bringing us this beautiful TV show. Just what you need on dull January evening."
