Lisa Marie Presley's short-lived marriages to Michael Jackson and Nicholas Cage
Thrust into the limelight when she was a child as the King of Rock and Roll's only child, Lisa Marie Presley faced many challenges over the years - among them, the death of her ex-husband Michael Jackson.
The pair first met when she was just seven years old as she had been a huge Jackson 5 fan. Her father Elvis was able to bring her backstage to meet Michael, who had been around 16 at the time.
Lisa and Michael are said to have "stayed in touch" after their first meeting and that she had known him "almost all her life", an employee told People magazine.
It was just two years later that Lisa tragically discovered her father's dead body lying next to the toilet. She recalled ringing up Elvis' former girlfriend, Linda Thompson, as she pleaded: "My daddy’s dead! He’s smothered in the carpet!"
Over the years, Lisa and Michael remained in contact and - during that time - married rock and roll guitarist Danny Keough, who she met while she was still a teenager when they were both staying at a drug rehab centre.
'I'm spending £20k on a new bathroom - but won't help my brother out with cash'Danny and Lisa welcomed two children during their six-year marriage - Riley and Benjamin, the latter of whom tragically died by suicide aged 27.
While still married to Danny, Lisa rekindled her friendship with Michael in 1992 after meeting again in Los Angeles. A year later, while he was investigated after being accused of molesting 13-year-old Jordan Chandler, Lisa began to speak to him on the phone often and became his support system.
Michael reportedly asked Lisa if she would marry him if he asked her to during one of the phone calls, prompting her to reply that she would.
At the time, Lisa's marriage to Danny had been struggling and she jetted off to the Dominican Republic with Michael and filed a quickie divorce. Just days later, she eloped with the King of Pop om a 15 minute ceremony, during which both of them famously wore black.
As rumours swirled about the couple, they both kept quiet until Lisa announced the news in a statement in August that year.
She said: "My married name is Mrs. Lisa Marie Presley-Jackson. My marriage to Michael Jackson took place in a private ceremony outside the United States weeks ago.
"I am very much in love with Michael. I dedicate my life to being his wife. I understand and support him. We both look forward to raising a family."
Just a month later, the couple walked hand-in-hand on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards.
After the cheering died down, Michael opened the ceremony by saying: "Welcome to the MTV Video Music Awards. I'm very happy to be here. Just think, nobody thought this would last."
Michael then dove in to give his wife an awkward kiss, throwing his arms around her as the crowd went wild. The couple then walked off stage.
'My sister tried to wear a wedding dress to my engagement party - I got revenge'Despite their PDA, and their many public appearance, speculation turned to whether they were having sex or not.
Quizzed during an awkward 1995 interview with Diane Sawyer on the subject, she said: "Do we have sex?" Then both she and Michael exclaimed: "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
Just a month later, Michael appeared to attempt to write home this point with a raunchy music video for You Are Not Alone, which showed him and Lisa writhing on the floor in the nude in a desert temple.
Their romance only lasted a year and the couple separated in December 1995, with Lisa filing for divorce a month later and citing "irreconcilable differences".
Some years later, Lisa named her marriage to Michael as the "biggest mistake of her life".
Speaking in a Marie Claire interview, she said: "My biggest mistake? Let’s see. How can I word this? Um. Well. Leaving my first marriage, for the person that I left it for — that was probably the biggest mistake of my life."
The pair remained friends, with the couple attempting to reconcile through the late 90s. However, Michael went on to marry nurse Debbie Rowe in 1996, with whom he had two children with (Paris and Prince).
Lisa married Hollywood actor Nicholas Cage in 2002, divorcing him two years later.
The pair first met while she was engaged to musician John Oszajca and he was still married to Patricia Arquette.
Recalling the first time he saw Lisa, Nicholas said: "I walk into a party not knowing who I’m going to meet and there’s this beautiful girl standing in the middle of the living room wearing this short leather skirt and this fluffy jacket, and she looks up at me with these big, beautiful, soulful eyes, eyes that look like they have a sad story to tell, and I just went ‘Oh.'"
Their relationship ended just four months after they wed, with Lisa saying in 2007: "Marrying him was a wild flurry, a crazy idea and being young, and ‘Ahhhh!'”
After Michael's death in 2009, Lisa wrote a blog post in which she said she had "failed to him" him through his substance abuse issues, while also insisting that their marriage hadn't been a sham.
She wrote: "I wanted to save him from the inevitable which is what has just happened. His family and his loved ones also wanted to save him from this as well but didn’t know how and this was 14 years ago. We all worried that this would be the outcome then."
She went on to wed guitarist Michael Lockwood in 2006, but the couple divorced in 2021.
Tragically, Lisa died on January 12 2022, aged just 54, following a cardiac arrest.
Paramedics rushed to her house in Calabasas and after being able to regain a pulse, they transported her to hospital. Sadly, she died while receiving treatment.
Her mum Priscilla said in a statement: "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.
"She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment."
