Major League Soccer (MLS) has reportedly stopped United States star, Jesus Ferreira, from joining Russian club Spartak Moscow in a $13 million (£10m) deal.

FC Dallas had received a massive offer for the USMNT star and were planning to accept it. Ferreira was also interested in the move and was discussing personal terms.

However, The Athletic reports that MLS intervened, stating that a move would not be approved due to risks associated with American businesses dealing with Russian entities.

Ferreira, 23, has been successful both domestically and for the United States since his international debut in 2020. The Colombian-born striker, who moved to Dallas when he was 10 and became a U.S. citizen in 2019, has scored 15 goals in 23 games for the USMNT and was part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.

He's climbed the ranks at FC Dallas, scoring 48 goals in 141 MLS games for the team. He is a two-time MLS All-Star and was named MLS Young Player of the Year in 2022, as well as winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup Golden Boot last year.

He seemed ready for a new challenge with one of Russia's top clubs, but this has now been blocked and his future is currently uncertain. It's reported there is more interest in Ferreira from Europe and Mexico.

The Major League Soccer (MLS) once blocked a £3.7 million deal between New York Red Bulls and Lokomotiv Moscow featuring midfielder Cristian Casserers Jr in 2022, due to Russia's war with Ukraine.

Ever since Russia entered Ukrainian territory, they've been stopped from competing in international competitions "until further notice", dating back to 2022. The Under-17 national squads did return to action last October.

For now, Ferreira is sticking with FC Dallas as the team gears up for the upcoming MLS season launching in February. He recently led his team to victory with a 1-0 win over Inter Miami in a preseason friendly match at Cotton Bowl Stadium.

Both Lionel Messi and recent recruit Luis Suarez joined the action along with central midfield maestro, Sergio Busquets. Yet it was FC Dallas who clinched the win, courtesy of Ferreira's impressive early goal.
