Strictly star Giovanni's four word response to Amanda Abbington 'feud' claims

Giovanni Pernice admitted it can be "tough" training Strictly Come Dancing stars amid a rumoured 'feud' with Amanda Abbington.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional appeared on The One Show tonight to discuss his new dance show amid claims that his former celebrity partner Amanda Abbington has taken legal advice after requesting footage from her Strictly rehearsals. Amanda said she had been diagnosed with PTSD following the show back in October.

Speaking on the show tonight to hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating, he said: "I'm definitely a perfectionist. Like everybody else, I'd like to win. I want the best out of my partners, especially if I see there is talent there.

"I want to do my job properly. I think everybody else really, if you're a presenter etc. - you train all your life to be the best. When you're on Strictly, you've only got one week - you've got four days to create a new dance."

Speaking about how tough the job is, he added: "You have to try to teach the technique, all the interviews to do. It's a tough job."

It comes after his Strictly partner this year Amanda Abbington has reportedly taken legal advice after issuing a request for the BBC footage of her rehearsals with Giovanni. Amanda revealed she had been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after she suddenly quit the BBC show in October, at the time citing "personal reasons".

A source told The Sun: "There is a feeling that the recordings will lift the lid on what really goes on behind the scenes on Strictly. Things in rehearsals can become very tense." They added that Giovanni could be "incredibly full-on" as he is a "perfectionist", sharing that Amanda was really stressed during her time on the show. They added: "Everyone else was having a fabulous time, but she was really stressed by having to spend eight hours a day with Giovanni. She spent a lot of time crying and couldn’t sleep or eat properly."

The BBC later issued a statement, with a spokesperson for the corporation saying recently after the allegations came to light: "The BBC offers a comprehensive range of support to all individuals taking part in our shows.

"Strictly Come Dancing has always taken duty of care incredibly seriously and there is a constant dialogue between senior members of the production team and the contestants to ensure any concerns are addressed swiftly. Strictly has a proud track record as a joyful, positive experience where robust support and assistance is always made available at every stage of the production."
