Lisa Marie Presley's final Instagram message saw her discuss her grief.

The daughter of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley died on Thursday after suffering cardiac arrest at the age of 54. Her mum confirmed the sad news in a statement, saying: "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.

"She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment."

While Lisa Marie wasn't very active on the social media platform, her final two posts saw her open up on the feelings she had following the death of her son.

Her last upload showed an article from an interview she completed with People for National Grief Awareness Day.

Sharing a screenshot of the piece titled "Lisa Marie Presley Says She Was 'Destroyed' by Son Benjamin's Death but Keeps 'Going for My Girls'", Lisa Marie wrote: " Hi. In honor of it being National Grief Awareness Day, I wrote an essay about Grief which was posted today on @people .

"I thought I’d post it here in the hopes that anyone who needs to hear all of this it helps in some way."

In the essay, Lisa Marie - who was Elvis' only child - spoke about her son Benjamin, who was Elvis' only grandson.

She opened up on what she's learned in the time since her son's death by suicide.

"This is not a comfortable subject for anyone, and it is most unpopular to talk about," she wrote. "But if we're going (to) make any progress on the subject, grief has to get talked about.

"Death is part of life whether we like it or not — and so is grieving. Grief does not stop or go away in any sense, a year, or years after the loss. Grief is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, in spite of what certain people or our culture wants us to believe. You do not "get over it," you do not "move on," period."

She candidly confessed she would "beat myself up tirelessly" following his death and often blamed herself. But she went on to say it's important people are able to lean on others for support.

Her post came just over a month after she'd shared an image with her 572k followers of her and her son's matching foot tattoos.

In that upload the star candidly wrote: "Several years ago, on Mother's Day, my son and I got these matching tattoos on our feet. It’s a Celtic eternity knot. Symbolizing that we will be connected eternally. We carefully picked it to represent our eternal love and our eternal bond."

She signed off the post with a broken heart and sad face emoji.
