Bayern Munich launched another bid to tempt Newcastle to sell Kieran Trippier on Tuesday - and had a £13million bid rejected.

The Geordies are knocking back bids to lure the England right-back to Germany, but could sell Miguel Almiron if a £30m offer is tabled. Eddie Howe is resisting losing experience in this window with an injury crisis still hampering the club, with bids for striker Callum Wilson also not welcome.

The German giants believed Trippier would be open to the switch to join Harry Kane and Eric Dier. At their current valuation it is a no, and Thomas Tuchel won’t go much higher for a 33-year-old. Monday’s approach was said to be their decisive move, suggesting Trippier will now stay.

Almiron is wanted by Saudi sides Al-Shabab and Al-Ahli, but the Paraguay winger would like to stay on Tyneside until the summer at the very least. Newcastle, though, need to move some players on for a profit this month to free up money for a summer rejig.

They play Fulham in the FA Cup this weekend and if they are eliminated, ending their chances of a trophy, it will be interesting to see how they approach the final days of the window. Newcastle have signed talented Manchester City winger Alfie Harrison, 18.

Howe's team saw their Carabao Cup run brought to an end at the quarter-final stage, beating Manchester United and Manchester City but losing on penalties to Chelsea. Trippier missed from the spot in that shoot-out, as did team-mate Matt Ritchie.

In the Premier League, Newcastle are coming off four straight defeats as they deal with injuries to several senior players. The last of those losses, against reigning champions City, saw the Toon lead 2-1 going into the final 20 minutes only to concede late goals to Kevin De Bruyne and Oscar Bobb.

Earlier in the week, Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus questioned the wisdom of a move for Trippier. The Bundesliga title holders have already added one Englishman this month, with Dier joining from Tottenham, and the value of both men has been questioned by the ex-Germany star.

"Bayern need more depth and reinforcements, but are these players reinforcements?" Matthaus asked on the Sky 90 Podcast. "Eric Dier wasn't necessarily a key player at Tottenham recently. I remember Uli Hoeness (Bayern's honorary president) once saying, 'We won't be bringing in any more players who are sitting on the bench at other clubs'. The latest transfer looks different.

"Kieran Trippier would be a similar case. That's not Bayern Munich for me. Bayern should focus on reinforcements or on the young players. Aleksander Pavlovic sat out against Bremen and wasn't substituted. When he did play, he was always outstanding."
