Many neighbour spats will occur due to parking, as many people will feel entitled to certain parts of the road - despite the fact they don't actually own it.

Each neighbourhood has its own people, with their own quirks, but one resident was getting fed up of their neighbour who would "constantly rearrange cars at 3am when the road is quiet", as he has six of them parked, and has an "obsession of having cars parked outside his house."

They'd also done some "illegal" work to the front of their home which the Redditor wasn't happy about, and they wrote an impassioned post on the forum to ask "How do you deal with neighbours 'claiming' the public street parking?"

They penned: "So we live on a terraced house road where our neighbour has six cars. One person owns five cars, issue is this person can only drive one car at a time, thus four cars being parked constantly. He constantly rearranges cars at 3am when the road is quiet.

"He has a weird obsession with having cars parked outside his house. The issue is there is no parking on the road whatsoever, whenever I see a spot I just park there don't get me started on trying to find parking after 8pm. They released illegally dropped the curb outside their home, although having six cars they never park a car on the dipped curb onto the front garden/ illegal driveway and put cones blocking anyone else from parking there."

They then went on to explain that once they "moved the cones" and parked there - as you cannot cone off a public highway. "A few minutes later he was banging on my door telling me to move my car off his 'drive'. Telling us that it was his driveaway and no one could park there", the disgruntled neighbour penned. "There was definitely no planning permission involved with this dropping of the curb. What can we do about this?"

Others were also fuming about the situation, with one commenting: "Move the cones again and tell him to jog on when he does it again. The third time he does it the cones go missing."

Another said: "There's nothing wrong with cars, what the issue is, is people will buy properties without suitable off-street parking and come out with every reason under the sun for living there. I mean, it's one thing to own 1 car and street park, once you're up to 3 all parking on the road you're taking the p**s."

In the UK, Section 137 of the Highways Act 1980 warns that it's an offence to wilfully obstruct the free passage along a highway - and that includes reserving car parking spaces with cones outside your home.
