Fortnite went through a major change at the end of last year with the arrival of Chapter 5 Season 1, and now just over a month later, we're finally getting the first major update of the new season following some downtime later today.

Considering how big of a splash Chapter 5 Season 1 made on Fortnite – with the introduction of three new modes Lego Fortnite, Fortnite Festival, and Rocket Racing – Epic Games picked a decent time to head off for the holidays. Now that the company-wide holiday break is over, we finally know that the first major update of the new season is arriving later today. But as we all know by now, you can't have a Fortnite update without downtime, and Epic confirmed last night on Twitter that downtime will be arriving today.

Fortnite update server downtime schedule

Epic has confirmed via a Twitter post that Fortnite server downtime for update v28.10 will start today at 9am GMT / 4am EST / 1am PST. As always, matchmaking will go down 30 minutes beforehand, so that anyone in-game can finish off their match before it goes down.

We'd expect Fortnite to be down until 1pm GMT / 8am EST / 5am PST. While Epic hasn't explicitly stated this to be the case, Fortnite typically goes down for four hours each time there's an update. Although, in our experience, the servers usually come back online earlier than Epic Games announcing that the downtime is over on Twitter, so it's worth trying your luck when a couple of hours have passed.

Fortnite update 28.10 early patch notes and leaks

While we have some early Fortnite patch notes for update v28.10 already thanks to the Fortnite Trello Board, high-profile Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR has posted on Twitter to reveal some more of what we can expect in today's update, which is as follows:

Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thing eiqekiqxdiqzkinvWhy Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thing
  • New cosmetics

  • Battle Pass Super Styles

  • Solid Snake Battle Pass set

  • Item unvaults

  • Added shop tabs

  • Possible new collabs

  • Possible return of Augments

  • February Fortnite Crew Pack

While we don't have the full list of what's included, ShiinaBR usually is right on the money. Based on previous secret battle pass skins, Solid Snake should come with a number of cosmetics (with a Metal Gear Solid 4 Old Snake style being spotted in leaked art), alongside some missions to unlock the master of stealth.
