Wrexham AFC fans want their new stand to be named after owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Since taking over the Welsh club in November 2020, the Hollywood duo have overseen the club fighting its way back into the Football League for the first time since 2008 and they are currently second in League Two. Wrexham has plans for a new 5,500 seater stand at the Racecourse Ground, although a temporary stand is currently in place as it will not be ready for the start of next season.

Once it has been erected, however, some supporters think the new seating area should named after Reynolds and McElhenney as a tribute to what they have done for the club and the city of Wrexham. This was illustrated in a recent survey of Wrexham fans by media outlet The Leader, when one fan said: "[It should be called] The R & R Kop stand. Without Ryan [Reynolds] and Rob [McElhenney] it would never have been built."

Another fan added: "How can we realistically not call it something that includes our current owners' names, as well as the Wrexham Supporters Trust - they saved our club!" However, some fans believe the new stand name should reference a club legend, such as defender Joey Jones. The former Wales international and Liverpool star spent two separate spells with Wrexham, making 479 appearances and won the Welsh Cup with the Reds in 1975.

"Joey Jones, simply no words needed,” a fan said. “Imagine his name with a photo of his fist pump in the middle of the stand, going into the ground and on the back wall, for players to see as they run to that end." Other supporters mentioned late Reds fan Ian 'Jacko' Roberts. He was the main singer and song-starter on the Kop for many years and later the Glyndwr University Stand before his death from cancer in 2017.

"Got to include Jacko's name in my opinion,” this Wrexham follower said, before another added: "Jacko Memorial Stand, the voice of the kop for decades." On the pitch, Wrexham are preparing for their fourth-round FA Cup clash with Blackburn Rovers on Monday. This comes after they were beaten 1-0 by Newport Country in League Two on Saturday courtesy of a 34-minute strike by Seb Palmer-Holden.

They missed the chance to go to the top of the table after suffering just their fifth loss of the season and manager Phil Parkinson warned his players to show more discipline. The team received their fifth red card of the season when Will Boyle was sent off in the first half.

"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb with the sending off. It's a tough place to come anyway but we go down to 10 men and then second half they had the conditions in their favour as well,” Parkinson told club media. "We never really produced the quality with 10 men to get back in the game.

"The last thing we needed coming to a place like this is one, to go down to 10 men and 2, concede a goal. If we'd made it to half-time nil-nil, you'd have fancied us because the crowd were starting to get edgy to their own team and the goal was, like any goal, a key moment."
