Simon Rimmer accidently lets slip that he is The Masked Singer's Dippy Egg
Sunday Brunch chef and presenter Simon Rimmer has seemingly accidentally revealed themselves to be one of the contestants on The Masked Singer.
The 60-year-old seemed to let slip that he was under the Dippy Egg costume on the ITV singing competition, in which celebrities perform under elaborate costumes and the judges try to guess who might be the hidden singer. Speaking on live TV show Sunday Brunch, Simon was chatting to Julia Sawalha about her time on the show.
Julia was recently revealed to be under the Bubble Tea costume and Simon slipped up by admitting that he was on the show too, though some felt that he may have been joking to try and throw people off the scent as to who is actually the Dippy Egg performer.
Absolutely Fabulous actress Julia was reflecting on being Bubble Tea on the show and admitted that she had no idea what the drink was before stepping into the costume. Simon then said: "I always assumed that you picked your own costumes. Because I know when I …’
Simon then checked himself before continuing by saying: "Because I know with me…" With his sentence petering into nothing, Simon then placed his hand over his face when he realised that he may have made a huge mistake. Turning to his Sunday Brunch co-presenter Tim Lovejoy, Simon said quietly: "I think I gave it away then."
Three new celebrities are set to join The Masked Singer panel this weekendJulia was surprised that Simon had spoken out of turn and was open-mouthed before they all moved onto another subject and try to put this behind them. There had been rumours that Dippy Egg was a TV chef or someone that works with food as members of the celebrity cooking world. Among the names mentioned have been MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace, former Great British Bake Off presenter Matt Lucas and chef Jimmy Doherty.
While on Sunday Brunch, Julia did open up on the reasons why she had signed up to perform on The Masked Singer. The 55-year-old said: "I wanted to do something that would really take me out of my comfort zone. I like to do jobs that actually I’m really terrified of because then they’re a big challenge. This lived up to that!
Julia added: "The panel’s guesses were just so hilarious. I couldn’t believe they thought I was Hannah Waddingham." The Masked Singer has so far unveiled that Dionne Warwick as Weather, Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas as Rat, Alexander Armstrong as Chicken Caesar before Julia was unmasked.
