Newcastle make final decision on Trippier after Bayern bid 'turned his head'
Newcastle are determined to keep hold of Kieran Trippier after interest from Bayern Munich turned the defender’s head.
As reported by Mirror Football on Saturday, Trippier is ready to quit the Magpies and move to Bavaria to join his former Tottenham team-mates Harry Kane and Eric Dier. He is understood to be keen on the idea of starting afresh in Germany after Thomas Tuchel made him a key transfer target.
Trippier’s Newcastle contract runs until June 2025 and he is a key player for Eddie Howe, who does not want to lose the 33-year-old. He was the first arrival of the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund era, joining from Atletico Madrid for £12million in January 2022 and has three goals and 18 assists in 81 appearances.
The Telegraph now reports that Newcastle have put their foot down, with Howe and sporting director Dan Ashworth making it clear to Bayern that Trippier is not for sale at any price this month. Senior figures at the club have reportedly spoken to Trippier and Callum Wilson to explain the situation and neither are said to be agitating for a move.
Trippier is a senior player in Howe’s squad and has frequently worn the captain’s armband when club captain Jamaal Lascelles has been out of the team. He is an experienced professional and remains committed to the cause. The stance means Bayern might be forced to chase Paris Saint-Germain right-back Nordi Mukiele instead.

The club’s position on Trippier comes in spite of their less than ideal financial position, which saw them admit they might have to sell players before they can reinforce Howe’s squad. Newcastle have lost £140m over the past two years and Howe explained recently: “I don’t think there’s any surprise in that because every football club will have to trade now with Financial Fair Play being such a prominent part of football.
“So selling players and trading is part of what every football club is going to have to do and we’re no different. So whether it’s our top players as you quote, that remains to be seen but selling players and trading will be part of football going forward now I think.”

Newcastle are 10th in the Premier League, having won just nine of their 21 matches so far this season. They are 14 points adrift of the top four and after exiting the Champions League in the group stage, are being forced to think differently about future transfer windows.
Nevertheless, the Magpies remain interested in signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, despite his £50m price tag. They are also keeping an eye on Bournemouth ’s Philip Billing, Nice’s Khephren Thuram at Nice and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone.
