Strictly pro will 'never get over' show moment as partner's 'face couldn't lie'

Strictly Come Dancing professional Carlos Gu has admitted he will "never get over" a moment from the show.

The dancer was paired with presenter Angela Scanlon for the 2023 series of the BBC competition. They started off as favourites to make it all the way to the final, however their journey came to an end when they found themselves in the bottom two against West End star Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin.

Angela and Carlos were voted off the show by the judges following their Cha Cha Cha to the classic hit, 'I Will Survive.' The dance partners have reunited once more for the Strictly Come Dancing live tour, where reflected on their Strictly exit. Speaking to The Mirror, Angela admitted: "I am an emotional creature so is Carlos.

"I think honestly because we had such a high in Blackpool with our Argentine Tango, we had this sense of confidence building and it felt disappointing. I said from the very beginning, it was much like when we were partnered up I said 'my face doesn't lie'. I very much wear my heart on my sleeve. We were disappointed and you could tell."

Carlos confessed: "I will never get over it." Head judge Shirley Ballas admitted she would have saved Angela and Carlos in the dance off, however Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood had already placed their votes in favour of Layton and Nikita. Speaking about her exit at the time, Angela said: "It’s been honestly incredible, I’m gutted, really gutted that it’s finished now, but it has been the most wonderful experience."

She added that Carlos had "supported me and picked me up and made me laugh so much" and claimed that he is "such an incredible guy." With emotions running high, the couple took to the dancefloor for the final time to perform, but it seemed as though it was too much for Carlos who was visibly upset. When Angela pulled him into an embrace Carlos had to let go of her hand to wipe away his tears.

The dance duo later made an appearance on spin-off It Takes Two where Angela broke down again and admitted that she felt the loss "deeply." Host Fleur East asked Angela if she felt she left the show "on a high" after her Cha Cha Cha to the classic hit, 'I Will Survive.' However, Angela had a different perspective. "I don't know if anyone feels they go out on a high, do they? The song is a bit painful to listen to now let's be honest. I will survive feels a bit like salt in the wound considering we didn't," she said.

Fans also expressed their sadness at her departure on social media, with some admitting they were also crying. One fan wrote: "It's broken my heart how sad @angelascanlon truly is to be leaving #Strictly." Another added: "OH Weeping! #ittakestwo bebe You #Angelascanlon are the first person to leave who I am genuinely sorry to see go!" "Oh come on @bbcstrictly Angela and Carlos are making me cry again," chimed in a third, while a fourth penned: "Angela's sad face breaks my heart."
