Chloe Madeley admits there's 'no way to rebuild' her marriage with James Haskell

Chloe Madeley has opened up about the collapse of her five-year marriage to rugby star James Haskell - explaining the pillars of their marriage ‘disintegrated’.

The 36-year-old former Dancing On Ice contestant shares a one-year-old daughter named Bodhi with 38-year-old sport star James. They married in 2018 following a four year romance and were regarded to be one of the golden couples of the reality star sphere.

But last year, fans were stunned to hear the pair had broken up - with the news emerging while a documentary series about their life, titled A Family Affair, was airing on ITV. Now Chloe has appeared on Loose Women and shared candid details about the end of her marriage.

The star joined a panel featuring Myleene Klass, Nadia Sawalha, and Katie Piper and helmed by Kay Adams. Dressed in a light cream coloured shirt, Chloe took a seat on the ITV daytime show on Friday and told all.

Addressing the end of her marriage, she said: "I always say this. If you think of a relationship, you have pillars in place that keep the relationship up, whether that's respect or kind of affection or trust and all these things. And all of our pillars - over time, it didn't just happen - over time, they kind of disintegrated. I think when that happens, there is no rebuilding.

“But we're great friends. He's the most incredible dad... Since we parted ways, our relationship has become very respectful. We love each other as friends, but we lost the ability for it to be more."

Chloe also explained that she is glad her soon-to-be ex-husband has jobs that keep him out of the house. She said: "One of the things that was quite hard over the summer was how often he is away DJing, like five nights a week. But actually how ironic that now it just completely works in my favour because I've got my space, he's got his space he'll come back a few nights a week and see Bodhi. He'll be hands-on dad and I'll sleep and then two days later off he goes - perfect."

Chloe went on to open up about how difficult it was to film and promote a TV show about their perceived perfect lives when reality was something quite different. She said: "I think automatically, when you tell somebody your marriage has ended or has stopped working, everyone always thinks that it's a negative thing and for me it's a really positive thing.

"The really hard part of everything that James and I went through was actually in the summer and that was the thing I really struggled with. We were filming and obviously I have a full-time job and it was really tough, it kind of broke me a bit. But once we made the decision, we drew a line under it and it was done. I've felt since that moment, I think both of us have, really free and happy."

Chloe admitted: "It was quite shocking and surprising to me how many people picked up on things not being right. I actually thought we did a really good job of (hiding) it but apparently not."

Chloe and James have continued to live together following their split and as they raise their daughter together - but that is expected to change soon. Chloe revealed: "I think he should be moving out in the next few weeks. It's all for Bodhi, it's not about James. He's got this new place and I'm going to move in for a week with Bodhi so she can settle in and know the environment and understand that she's safe and we're all there for her."
