Piers Morgan mocks Susanna Reid after Good Morning Britain's co-star Ed Balls kicked her in the head

Piers Morgan had a cheeky dig at his Good Morning Britain replacement Ed Balls after he accidentally kicked co-host Susanna Reid in the head.

The mishap happened during Wednesday's show when Susanna and Ed were discussing plane etiquette, specifically passengers resting their feet on the headrest of the seat in front. Susanna and Ed, along with the Mirror's own Kevin Maguire and commentator Andrew Pierce, moved to some Good Morning Britain plane seats for the discussion.

As they chatted, Ed accidentally kicked Susanna in the head, causing her to recoil in pain. Ed quickly covered his mouth at the shock and jumped up to apologise to her and check she was ok. Susanna said: "I think we've decided it's not ok, there we go."

"I don't know if I can carry on with the programme. I'm seeing stars. That is our debate this morning, should you put your feet up on seats? You probably shouldn't kick the person in front in the head" she warned. Later on the show, Charlotte Hawkins asked the presenters "How's Susanna's head?" Susanna responded: "Probably shouldn't kick the person in front in the head. Honestly. No lasting damage, although my eyesight did go blurry for about 20 minutes."

She soldiered on whilst detailing her painful experience on-air, leaving Ed sheepish. Afterwards, Kevin tweeted: "Full of admiration for Susanna Reid soldiering on after Ed Balls kicks her in the head. Anybody know a good personal injury lawyer?" And after the incident made headlines, Ed posted: "Not a headline I ever anticipated seeing…"

In response to the antics, Piers Morgan, her former co-star, took to social media platform X previously known as Twitter to make a cheeky jibe at the ex-politician. He joked to his 8.7 million followers: "Even I never did that to you, @susannareid100 ..." While Susanna didn't respond to his quip, fans were quick to debate it online. One user teased: "To be fair, you're not that coordinated". Another asked: "Are you sure, Piers [two cry-laughing emojis]." A third noted: "This was hilarious and Susanna took the hit with such fun and kindness."

"They are both a great team. Poor Ed was mortified [cry-laughing emojis]. They are both a great team." A fourth quipped: "I can't imagine you can get your leg so high at this age."

Good Morning Britain broadcasts on weekdays on ITV1 from 6am or you can play catch-up on ITVX.
