Senegal vs Cameroon - Everything you need to know ahead of AFCON showdown
Defending champions Senegal face Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday hoping to make it two wins from two so far in the tournament.
Aliou Cisse’s side convincingly won their opening fixture against The Gambia on Monday, with a Lamine Camara brace paving the way for a 3-0 win. They top the group, with Cameroon in third place following a draw against Guinea in their opening match of the competition earlier this week.
Senegal won their first ever AFCON title in 2022, beating Egypt to claim the crown and are one of the main contenders for this year’s title. Cameroon, however, have won the trophy five times, second only to Egypt (seven), and will be confident of a strong performance in this year’s edition following their strong showing at the World Cup in 2022,
The Indomitable Lions beat Brazil in Qatar, with Vincent Aboubakar scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 win. The 31-year-old will miss this match in a blow to Cameroon after suffering a hamstring injury in training, although he is not believed to be out for the rest of the tournament.
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana arrived late to the tournament and it remains to be seen whether he will be selected, with Nimes 'keeper Fabrice Ondoa having deputised in the opening match. It is an inauspicious start to the tournament for Onana, who was sent home early from the 2022 World Cup following a row with Rigobert Song.
