Prisoners' wives are pretending to be lawyers to send saucy snaps to their partners.

Strict rules on jail mail prevent inmates from receiving sexually explicit material like nude pics.

But partners found a loophole which involves marking envelopes as legal correspondence.

They have been ordering ‘Rule 39’ stamps from Amazon that are similar to official ones used by solicitors.

Letters with these markings cannot be opened by prison authorities as they can contain confidential information.

A source said: “This has put a smile on a lot of men’s faces, but I can’t see it lasting long. There’s bound to be a clampdown.”

Details of how to buy the £9.95 stamp – and even the right kind of envelope – have been shared on a Facebook group. Members said online that each prison has its own set of rules. Some remove all remotely sexual photographs while others are more relaxed.

One woman wrote: “I’ve sent all sorts and he’s got every single pic. 50 photos every month.”

A Prison Service spokesman said: “Sending fake legal letters is a criminal offence and we refer any evidence of this to the police.”
