Prince William is well aware of The Crown and the depictions of his family in the Netflix show - but is unlikely to do anything about it.

According to a new royal book, Charles III. New King. New Court. The Inside Story, which was released on January 18, the Prince of Wales "rolls his eyes" when the show is brought up but refuses to give it any more publicity by complaining about it. Author, royal expert and historian Robert Hardman relayed a message from a close aide in the book, who said: "The Prince knows about it. He rolls his eyes when people say that ‘it’s just drama.'

"He knows what they [Netflix] are doing. Yet he will not give it any greater publicity by complaining. He doesn’t like the idea of being seen a complainer all the time.”

The aide also told Robert that William and his wife, Princess Kate take recommendations from their colleagues on what to watch, and began watching BBC's Happy Valley after hearing rave reviews. The insider insisted that the couple "aren't what you call 'period drama' people" and that William "likes his action flicks."

William has previously been taunted by the Netflix show, with their recent season depicting the death of his mother, Princess Diana. After the tragedy, Dodi's father – Harrods boss Mohammed Fayed – claimed the princess was pregnant at the time of the accident.

In the series, Dodi's father is heard claiming the crash was an establishment plot to kill Diana and stop her from marrying Dodi. An insider has now claimed the repetition of the allegations will "likely enrage" the 41-year-old who has been "upset by many Crown storylines that have featured his mother".

They added to The Sun: "Hearing the claims about his mother’s pregnancy and the plot will feel like salt in the wound, particularly as so many of them have been debunked over the years." This isn't the first time the Netflix series has risked to wrath of William as he issued a scathing statement slamming Martin Bashir's 1996 Panorama interview with the late Diana after an inquiry found theBBCcovered up the journalist's "deceitful behaviour" to secure the televised chat.

The Prince of Wales then urged for the interview to never be shown again. He said in 2021: "It is my firm view that this Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again."
