James Bond has been voted the greatest movie hero of all time by British cinemagoers.

The secret agent, who first hit the big screen in 1962, topped the poll with 30% of the votes. He beat Harry Potter (28%) in second place, with Spider Man, Indiana Jones and Iron Man making up the top five.

Bond was last played by Daniel Craig in 2021’s No Time to Die – his final stint as 007. He made his debut in 2006’s Casino Royale. Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz was ranked the top female, famously played by Judy Garland in 1939 when she was just 16.

Other popular heroines include Wonder Woman and Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games. Marvel’s Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson, and Star Wars’ Princess Leia also made the list. Of the 2,000 people polled for online fan shop Hasbro Pulse, more than 60% said they prefer watching heroes to villains.
