Fans call out Madonna for 'face tuning' appearance as they spot huge difference in pictures

Singer Madonna has been hit with pleading from fans to stop using filters and "face apps" to edit her appearance in online pictures.

The pleas come after her appearance in January 2024 is drastically different to that of January 2023, and after the star was hit with criticism over plastic surgery after her Grammy awards appearance in February.

The Material Girl singer appears to be more chiselled and have more defined facial features this year than she did twelve months ago, and fans have not let it go unnoticed. On a recent post featuring behind the scenes snaps from her tour, Madonna shared a series of snaps as she captioned the post: "Before, during and after………….BTS!"

One fan commented on the pictures: "Why does she need to face app every pick [sic]. I think she looks beautiful on tour and looks great for someone 65." Another shared: "stop with face app". A third added: "Show us the raw footage without a filter. Embracing getting old will sooth your soul. Stop with the smoke and mirrors. Save that for the stage." Another wrote: "I wish Madonna still looked like Madonna." A fifth shared: "madonna please using filters and stop the plastic surgery. Grow old gracefully".

In February last year Madonna's face became a topic of conversation when the iconic singer was hit with criticism over her appearance, especially after appearing at the Grammy Awards in February where her face became the subject of discussion and what work she may have had done. Speaking after the backlash, Madonna claimed it was the use of a long-lens camera that distorted her face, making her look puffier than she was in reality.

Madonna addressed the gossip with a post to Instagram where she highlighted that many had overlooked her being at the Grammy's to present an award to Sam Smith and Kim Petras and focused on her appearance.

She wrote: "It was an honor for me to Introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith at the Grammys. I wanted to give the last award [of the night] which was Album of the year, but I thought it was more important that I present the first trans-woman performing at the Grammys – a History making moment!! And on top of that she won a Grammy!! Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim – Many people chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long-lens camera by a press photographer that would distort anyone’s face!!"

She continued: "Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45. And feels the need to punish her if she continues to be strong willed, hard-working and adventurous.

"I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start. I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come. In the words of Beyonce, 'You won’t break my soul'."
