Christina Applegate's ex is 'so proud of her' for Emmy appearance amid MS battle
Christina Applegate's ex-husband Johnathon Schaech is “so proud of her” Emmy Awards appearance.
The 52-year-old, who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for her role in the hit Netflix show Dead To Me, took to the stage at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday to present the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy. She was accompanied to the podium by Emmys host Anthony Anderson, and when she walked out on stage with her walking stick, the star-studded audience immediately got to their feet.
Overwhelmed by the standing ovation she received from celebs including Jennifer Coolidge, Pedro Pascal and Kieran Culkin, she started to cry and was visibly emotional as she thanked everyone, including some of her former co-stars, for showing their support. “Thank you so much. Oh my God, you’re totally shaming me with disability by standing up. It’s fine…Body not by Ozempic,” she quipped, referencing the popular weight loss medication reportedly favoured by Hollywood.

Beat cancer! She's the toughest human being I've ever met! F*** MS! So proud of her! Go, Christina!” he tweeted in reply to an article about the actress receiving a standing ovation.

He also reposted a video of Christina looking stunning in her red velvet gown, designed by Christian Siriano, on his Instagram Story. “We are so proud of you, Christina,” Johnathon sweetly wrote atop the clip. The actor was married to the award-winning actress from 2001 to 2007, and his followers were touched by his support for his ex-wife.

She has stayed out of the spotlight due to her health struggles, but was overwhelmed when she returned to the stage at the Emmys to talk about her glittering career as she presented an award.
“OK, let’s go. Some of you may know me as Kelly Bundy from Married… With Children or Samantha from Samantha Who? or Jen Harding from Dead to Me. Very few of you probably know me from that debut – I’m going to cry, more than I’ve been crying – Baby Burt Grizzell on Days of Our Lives. It was my breakout role,” Christina said, as she became emotional. She told the audience and viewers at home that it had been “an honour to play funny, flawed, complex characters like the women nominated for supporting actress in a comedy series”.
