Strictly's Neil Jones shares what he 'didn't understand' before becoming a dad

Neil Jones has shared the one thing that surprised him most about becoming a father.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 41, and former Love Island star Chyna Mills, 25, got engaged last year and welcomed their daughter Havana, now three months old, in October. Speaking to the Mirror in an exclusive interview, Neil opened up on fatherhood and what "amazes" him most about his young daughter.

He shared: "[Becoming a parent] is one of those things where when people turn around and they say, when you have your own child you don't understand it's the best feeling in the world. And honestly, it really is. Both of us could just sit there and look at [Havana] all day – you're just so excited to see what she gets up to."

The Strictly professional continued: "She's just over three months and she's gotten to the stage where she's so excited and she can't stop looking at her own hands. It just amazes you to watch her do that."

Opening up on Havana's first Christmas, Neil revealed he and Chyna spent the day with his family. The ballroom and latin dancer said: "We spent Christmas with my mum and my family, which was really nice. Havana got to hang out with all her cousins and meet her uncles and aunties. It's not what we're used to because I do normally enjoy a quiet one or me and Chyna like to go away. But, I think it was nice that for Havana's first Christmas she was surrounded by half of her family."

Neil is a proud animal lover and has three dogs, which he admits he sometimes struggles with exercising during the winter months. The Strictly dancer, who has teamed up with Burns Pet Nutrition to try and change the perception that exercising your dog is a chore, said: "A lot of the time, for instance, two of my dogs never want to go out when it's raining, when I try and take them for a walk, they will pull back and be like, ‘No!’.

"And the other one doesn't care what the weather is, she wants to go out all the time. The other two if you don't go out when there’s bad weather, they're not going to get the exercise they need so what's quite nice about this campaign is the fact that you can actually exercise with your dog and do something fun, which is good fitness for you but also for the dog at the same time."
