A man was left over the moon because a shop let him redeem a 25-year-old voucher he found in his home - hidden away inside a box.

Best Menswear in Swords will let Sean Curry use his old voucher worth 100 punt, even after more than two decades. Sean got the voucher for his 40th birthday from pals at his local GAA club. He used to live in Skryne, Co Meath. After losing his wife and looking after his kids alone, Sean forgot about the voucher until he spotted it recently while sorting out stuff in his house in Swords.

The fancy writing on the card caught his eye, so he took it to Best Menswear to see if it was still good. The voucher didn't have an end date, but at 65, Sean didn't think it would work anymore. He told Dublin Live: "I told the manager to hang on to it if it couldn't be used as it was a nice souvenir. She rang me back a few days later to say they'd be delighted to honour it at 100 - I was delighted."

Now married again, Sean's grown-up kids think the find is funny. It's perfect timing for Sean, who wants new clothes after losing weight, but he'll need his wife's say-so. He said: "I lost a good bit of weight so I want to buy some new trousers and shirts. I'm bringing my wife as I'd rather her have a look than me. It's great to finally be able to buy something off the rack."

Sean handed the original voucher over to Best Menswear as a souvenir. He gave credit to their employees for honouring the coupon despite so many years having passed, stating: "It has to be a record for a company honouring the voucher and I hope Best Menswear get some business out from this."
