Sky News viewers slam Kay Burley's new show over 'awful' appearance shake-up

Sky News viewers took aim at Kay Burley's new show after the studio refurb didn't go down well.

The new-look breakfast show is back with the 63-year-old presenter broadcasting from somewhere very different - but it seems many didn't see the need for the drastic revamp. Kay was joined by Gareth Barlow and political correspondent Mhari Aurora as everyone got their first look at the programme's new home.

Defence Secretary Grant Schapps and shadow minister for creative industry and digital Rhondda Bryant were first up to be interviewed, but viewers were left distracted. Many teased the host on social media about the studio with some even asking when the new one will finally be ready.

"I assume this new studio set up is the temporary one in the caravan in the back yard until the new one is finished!!" one said on twitter. Another joked: "Why are you broadcasting from a corridor? When will the new studio be ready?" A third simply called the set-up "awful".

Others were a little more constructive with their criticism, saying: "Love the new concept, guys. However, the backdrop could be better. The office in the background is a distraction and looks drab too." Other told Kay they liked the revamped show, which got under way on Monday.

Ahead of the Breakfast show's return, Kay, the face of Sky News for almost two decades, said: "Breakfast is becoming even brighter here on Sky News. I'm excited to be presenting from a new state-of-the-art studio - and to be joined by a great new line-up. Gareth, Mhari and Wilfred will be with me, each bringing their unique brand of first-rate, quality journalism. It'll be the best breakfast show in the business. Join us."

David Rhodes, executive chairman for Sky News Group, said: "We're really pleased to present Breakfast earlier each morning - and delighted to welcome Gareth Barlow to our team. From a new Westminster newsroom now - and a new studio in the coming months - Kay Burley, Gareth Barlow, Mhari Aurora and Wilfred Frost will bring the whole range of Sky News to audiences each morning."

Wilfred Frost said: "Sky News is the home for news across all platforms in the UK - but in my view, at breakfast, television remains the best place to digest your news. And I can't wait to be involved in delivering the news that matters to viewers and voters in a fun and friendly way with Kay and the team each day."
