Former professional boxer and Strictly Come Dancing star Nicola Adams and her family got caught up in the terrifying cyclone in Mauritius.

The star, 41, took to social media to share shocking footage of the aftermath of Cyclone Belal - which hit the Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius and Reunion, bringing strong winds and heavy flooding. In the video shared on her Instagram Stories, Nicola showed the chaos after the floods.

Cars were flipped over and crashing into others while debris covered the roads. She captioned the post: "Wow. This is the city right now in Mauritius. The cyclone went from category 1 to a 4." Category 1 cyclones bring minimal damage with winds between 74 to 95mph.

Category 4 cyclones, with winds between 130 to 156mph, could cause extensive damage to roofs with trees and signs blown down.

Nicola is currently in Mauritius with her girlfriend Ella Baig and their baby boy, Taylor - who they welcomed one month earlier than expected back in July 2022. Nicola shared a light-hearted video about the cyclone on her page earlier this week. She filmed a video of herself and Ella soaked to the bone as they walked outside the hotel without shoes on.

"Cyclone Belal is quickly approaching Mauritius it’s crazy how the weather has changed already and it’s not even hit us yet.
P.S. Thank you to the hotel staff for keeping our precious cargo safe," she captioned the post as she referred to her son. The duo thanked the staff for keeping their son safe as they braved the winds.

However, they didn't seem too worried as they jumped around in the rain and kept optimistic about the unfortunate situation. She also shared a clip of the hotel staff carrying Taylor's pram, which was covered to make sure he stayed dry and toasty. "We've all been told we have to stay inside and we're not allowed to leave our rooms until further notice. This storm ain't no joke," Nicola said once they got back to the safety of their hotel room.

Fans rushed to the comment section to tell them to stay safe. "Hope you're all okay!" one user said while another joked: "Make sure you place your phone in rice." One concerned follower added: "Oh my stay safe!" Nicola and Ella have been spending the last few days at the Shangri-La on the island.

She shared regular updates on her break, including skits, sweet selfies and day-to-day activities.
