Love Island's Jake wanted to show public new side to him before dramatic exit

Jake Cornish had high hopes for his Love Island All Stars journey before dramatically quitting the villa after just a couple of days.

The reality TV star, who first appeared on the dating show in 2021, admitted he signed up for All Stars in a bid to show the public a different side of his personality. Jake explained how he had matured since he originally sought love inside the villa and confessed Love Island fans "saw me as a f*ck boy, but not a cheeky chappy" during the 2021 summer series.

The 26-year-old was the villain of his Love Island series two years ago, thanks to a doomed romance with Liberty Poole. The pair were reunited on-screen during Monday night's All Stars premiere, with Liberty also signing up for the spin-off filmed in South Africa.

And the exes were more than reunited in the villa, with host Maya Jama later revealing the public had voted for Liberty and Jake to form a couple - something that perhaps contributed to Jake's drastic decision to pack his bags, leave the villa and hop on an early flight home on Tuesday.

But the water engineer from Weston-Super-Mare had been prepared to see Liberty once again - admitting before heading inside the villa that he "could bet my house they’ve [producers] put her in there" and revealing he had no plans to apologise to his ex as feels he has "done nothing to her."

"Last time the public saw me not as a f*ck boy but not a cheeky chappy, which I am but I want people to see the other side of me and not just this lovey dovey Jake there was before," Jake told the Mirror and other press outlets earlier this month. "Now I’m older and I’m matured I think there will be a different storyline for me."

He continued: "If all my eggs are in one basket I’ll give you my full attention but I think last time it was and then as the show went on I think a lot of people got involved and it went Pete Tong after a few weeks and that’s what broke us down. I want to show the public the real me, the fun the bubbly the cheeky chap, I hope that gets shown but it’s TV at the end of the day. I won’t know what’s being shown until I am out."

‌Discussing the prospect of bumping into his ex Liberty inside the South African villa, Jake said: "I could bet my house they’ve put her in there. And it’s not something I’ve thought about. I’ve not seen her and i’ve not spoken to her. I just hope she’s done well and that she’s fit and healthy.

"That’s all I ask of someone that they are fit and healthy. If you’re in a good headspace that’s it. I have nothing to apologise for. I won’t say sorry because I have done nothing to her. Sorry will not come out of my mouth. I hope she’s done well and her family are fine and her friends and that’s it. That’s all I ask."

Jake was clearly fuming during Love Island All Stars series' opener on Monday, after being coupled up with his ex Liberty. When host Maya confirmed the news, an angry Jake quipped: "I knew it." He later went on to say: "I don't hate the girl." Upon first seeing Liberty entering the villa, he said: "What are the chances," before declaring that there was no bad blood between the former flames.

However, something has clearly happened in the villa since Monday night's episode, with it reported Jake has now called time on his Love Island All Stars journey. Speaking to The Sun, a source said on Tuesday: "Jake was really shocked to see Liberty in the villa - they had no idea the other person would be there.

"It was clear from the start they wouldn't get back together, then none of the girls wanted to step forward for him. Jake had a nice three days in the villa and had a very emotional chat to Maya Jama." The source added that Jake knew he "couldn't stay" before deciding to quit.
